i saw blu ray movie on blu ray player, i was impressed with the picture that looked very clear than old DVD player. that was my partner's blu-ray on his new DELL computer. has anyone hear about blu-ray player, it already came out i think last year and it's expensive for right now but later maybe christmas for SALE or probably go down. right now for the price is about $399-$500.
i think some of you already know about this.

so what do you think about blu ray? or you'd rather stay with DVD player?.
i want to know your opinion and why?

don't buy blu-ray right away, better wait for cheaper price.

i would stay with DVDs for some times cuz i am not crazy about blue ray things. :)

Big problem.... Blu-Ray + HDMI cable = No Regular Closed Captioning
Subtitle is very suck!!!

Would you like to see center Subtitle? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Subtitle-Example.png
I dislike to see center subtitle cause confuse who talked.

SDH on BD is bad? Your so intensive, SDH on BD is awesome and only one choice.

SDH is only one optional for BD and more crisper than DVD version, BD has issue when fit with digital CC because of limited to tv shows that deliver from cable, ota or satellite and analog CC isn't deliver on higher than 480i due analog issue.

I know you never tried SDH on BD, hehe.

SDH does included with audio description.

DVD player look fine to me on HDTV. Look at NTSC tv show, it's horrible in HDTV. That's much different!

No necessary to waste money on $400+ Blu-Ray player.

DVD movie looks bad when running on computer with high resolution, such as 1680 x 1050, it looks funny picture, such as fuzzy and pixel.

BD is best if you have tv size that's above than 32" or monitor with higher than 1440 x 900.

i have media networking and media server with over 100 dvd movies in it. we have enjoyed watching those on HDTVs with HTPCs for over two years. the resolution should be either 1280x720 or 800x400 if you have HTPC that is connected to HDTV.

yeah yeah, it does show blur on computer. However, on HDTV 32", it still look fine. I ain't waste my damn penny on Blu-Ray. And I don't sit closer to HDTV to see the fine skin or wrinkle on people's face, for sake!

I usually watch on computer, picture looks blurry.

When I get new XPS then I would install BD drive in it.

I have a Blu-ray player and I'm perfectly happy with it. I play it via a 1080p projector on a 100" plus screen.

I am looking into buying HD-DVD and Blue-Ray DVD player combo.

Reason I think its a better buy and you can still read your old DVD. Havent decided when to buy and get new HDTV.

First need sell few things then can buy them.

DO NOT BUY A BLUE-RAY-HD DVD PLAYER COMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I brought the combo when it launched and it has so many problems, I had to turn it on and off just to get it to work, sometimes subtitles doesn't work, it is a fuck up player, it's better to buy them seperatly like I did

If I'm going to get a Blu-Ray DVD player, I'd just buy a Playstation 3. I would rather spend my money on something that has a million uses than something that has one use... for the same price. :)

Not to be a nitpicker, but it's Blu-ray Disc, not Blu-ray DVD.

Right, LG and Samsung tried to make a combo player each and they didn't perform quite well.

If someone want to get the most bangs for the buck, go with the PS3. It is now able to decode DTS-HD MA and TrueHD into bitstream PCM giving you a high quality audio track, at least for people who can hear. Also, PS3 is HDMI 1.3 ready.

It can be used as a media centre, you can play DIVX files ending with .divx with subtitles on it. No support for external subtitles (srt, sub, etc). You can play AVI files but they won't be able to display subtitles.

You can use a freeware to add subtitles as a bitmap-based track. It's called AVIAddXSubs and is relatively easy to use.

AVIAddXSubs v7.1

I wait to buy Blue-ray DVD player till looking for low cost price end of year or next year and need more Blu-ray movies in Blockbuster stores.
