GTA IV thread

Yep. For anyone who proably played alittle TOO much GTA its a no wonder he acted like that.

Anyway, GTAIV is really a great game. But something has been bothering me about the series.

Of course GTA series is always made up of cities with millions of ppl in it, and thousands of cars to hijack from, hundreds of people to kill, and so on.

GTAIV is proably the most realistic game I've ever seen but if you ever want to see something as realistic as you've seen in real life.

Then what about this? Where are children? school buses? animals as dogs and birds?

The point is that all you seen in the game is just all adults, cars, guns, drugs, sex, and violence. Even when u drive around in the city or in the streets, u dont see animals wandering around, or kids playing in the streets, or something like that. It just doesnt seem that realistic as u seen in real life somehow.

For games like Bully, have about everything in it expect guns and sex.

Weird, eh? I guess there's a reason to all this stuff.

Yes I saw it on news tv on april 29. He acts like the traumatic five year olds, isn't he?

a) Yeah, most realistic ubran or ghetto area are drugs, whore, rats, criminals like that.
b) Yeah there are birds and pigeons in GTA IV I've seen, however no dogs nor cats. But you have good point about no childern nor yellow bus in GTA IV. thats annony me. thank you for bring it up!
c) I haven't see the realistic present mafia today like back in 1930's like movie: Godfathers, Good fella on and on. Most common realistic life in ubran: gangs against gangs as color of gang tags or blacks against mexican as ethic national groups.
d) it is good teaching kids how to standup instead of weakness, defenseless and follower.. whenever kid had vent, go home, grab the game controller to play bully to assault on bad boy as revenge.. ha

UPDATE said:
For months leading up to its release, when gamers and industry analysts could manage to get their minds off of simply wanting to play it, the question on the minds of many was: Who would benefit more with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, Sony or Microsoft? Just a few days after its release, both platform holders have already begun to claim the results in their favor -- or at least to spin the perception that the results are in their favor.

According to Next-Gen.biz, Microsoft is claiming that since GTA4's release on Tuesday, the Xbox 360 version has been outselling the PlayStation 3 version in the U.S. by a two-to-one margin. "What we've heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. "That mirrors what we saw with pre-orders, but it continues to hold true at retail, at least for the first couple of days. It's a great sign."

The key word in that quote, though, is "anecdotally". Neither Microsoft nor Sony (nor Rockstar, for that matter) have released official sales numbers yet, but that didn't stop Sony Computer Entertainment America from denying Microsoft's claims. In a response to Next-Gen, a Sony representative stated the two-to-one ratio "doesn't line up" with what Sony has heard from their retail partners, although the rep declined to elaborate on just what exactly their partners were telling them until official sales numbers are available.

So either Sony's and Microsoft's respective retail partners aren't sharing information with each other, or someone's dishing some misinformation. Both platform holders are also claiming boosts in their respective console's sales -- but again, neither has released hard numbers to back it up. When asked if the April NPD numbers would confirm a spike in 360 hardware sales, Greenberg responded that "I think we'll have solid performance in April, but I think you might actually see a bigger impact in May."

Which means conclusive hardware results, according to Greenberg, won't be known until the May NPD numbers are released in June. But even then, the question of who really benefited most from the release of GTAIV might still be inconclusive, as this is only concerning North American sales. The full answer will only be revealed once worldwide software sales figures come in, as well as hardware numbers -- and it'll also depend on how success is measured (selling more copies of the game, or selling more hardware? Or both?).

So basically, expect both Microsoft and Sony to eventually claim victory one way or another, no matter what the numbers say.

Microsoft Says 360 GTA4 Outselling PS3 2-to-1 in U.S. news from 1UP.com

Update: Added comments from Sony

"What we've heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live during an interview Thursday.

"That mirrors what we saw with pre-orders, but it continues to hold true at retail, at least for the first couple of days. It's a great sign."

But a SCEA rep questioned Microsoft's findings, saying that Microsoft's two-to-one ratio "doesn't line up" with what Sony has been hearing from its retailers. The rep declined to say exactly what Sony has been hearing from its retail partners until more concrete data can be compiled.

Rockstar's GTA IV launched on Tuesday.

In day-one sales in the UK, the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV outsold the PS3 version: 335,000 versus 274,000, respectively, according to Chart Track.

One of the big questions hovering around the release of GTA IV is just how much of an impact the game will have on sales of Xbox 360 and PS3.

SCEA released a statement Thursday saying that GTA IV drove a boost in PS3 sales on the game's launch day, although the company has yet to release hard figures.

Microsoft also has yet to release post-GTA IV hardware sales figures, but Greenberg said, "We've heard from our retailers that the consoles saw strong lifts during the week. We typically wait for [research firm] NPD to give us a better read on that.

"But we expect that GTA IV is definitely driving a lot of people to Xbox 360. ... The fact that we know that we're outselling [the PS3 version] two-to-one on the game is a pretty good sign that a lot of those games are going with a new console out the door."

Asked if April NPD results would definitely show a GTA IV-driven Xbox 360 hardware boost, Greenberg said, "I think we'll have solid performance in April, but I think you might actually see a bigger impact in May."

Analysts (and Sony) point out that the GTA series has deep roots in the PlayStation brand, which still has strong pull with mainstream gamers who have yet to upgrade from their PS2s.

But Greenberg suggested that many gamers are ignoring PlayStation brand loyalty in the case of GTA IV because of the exclusive downloadable content that will be available for the Xbox 360 this fall.

"That's making a big difference in peoples' console purchase decisions. ... GTA fans are switching over to Xbox 360 just like Guitar Hero fans and Madden fans did. ...The same thing is happening with Grand Theft Auto IV."

Greenberg also said that many gamers are "graduating" from the last generation of consoles to this generation via Xbox 360 and GTA IV.

Heavy Xbox Live play

Greenberg said that on day one, roughly 1 million GTA IV users went online with the game on Xbox Live.

"It's been the number one game on Xbox Live since its launch, so it's knocked off Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4," said Greenberg. "At launch, our data shows that out of all of our members on Live, the majority of them were playing GTA IV.

"With a community of over 10 million members, that's pretty rare."

Greenberg also said that 2 million GTA IV achievements were unlocked in the first 24 hours of the game's release. In addition, over 15 million Gamerscore points were added to users' accounts in the first day.

1.5 million cross-game invites also occurred during that period.

Microsoft has been keen to leverage GTA IV's strong online multiplayer component by including a one-month Xbox Live gold subscription with all GTA IV launch copies. The firm hopes the game will drive Xbox Live adoption. Gold subscriptions cost $50 for a full year.

"Our teams have been doing a lot of work in advance of this game, in fact, months. The operations team has been working on scaling our infrastructure around building and increasing our server capacities," he added.

Grand Theft Auto’ Trumps ‘Iron Man’ At Cash Register

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Video-game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. said Wednesday that sales of its popular and eagerly anticipated title “Grand Theft Auto IV” reached more than $500 million in its first week of availability. The company said it has sold more than 6 million units globally since the game was released on April 29. The New York-based company said it sold 3.6 million units on its opening day alone, worth a retail value of $310 million worldwide. “Grand Theft Auto IV” follows the criminal exploits of protagonist Niko Bellic, an immigrant-turned-gangster who travels from Eastern Europe to Liberty City, the game’s fictional locale based on New York City. As Bellic, players can hijack cars, earn cash for criminal activities, shoot innocent bystanders and visit strip clubs. Critics say the extreme violence in “Grand Theft Auto” video games could be harmful to children, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving has complained that the latest version includes the ability to drive while intoxicated. so what is the point they want to remove the violence game from all store shelves? Yeah.. why not they remove the meth users, pimps, wh#res, criminals, child molesters, gangers from the street before remove the violence game from any store's shelves?? Umm

If this game is re-rate to AO then not all store will take off from shelves, such as video/music/game store like Fye don't pull it off after GTA SA has been re-rated to AO.

I'm concern about MS or Sony will roll the firmware update to block this game from working on console.

I'm SERIOUSLY doubt that game will re-rate, fuck to MADD and Jack Thompson.

GTA3 and GTA4 is basically the same, just nicer graphics and a little different story. How many children have gone awol? Quite a few! When I was growing up, I watched lot of violence and all....I grew up as a good boy! I had a lot of displine from my parents.

What about the driving physics? Are the more accurate in IV than III or the same?

HAHA, what do you think? Ha GTA IV is more accurate the driving physics like realistic car you drive.. But I despite that cars drive to pass me without stop and hit me what I wasn't expect. when I didn't loook around cars behind me. I was like the @#CK P!SS @FF at A.I. drivers and why not they stop and watch me when I walk as jaywalk cross streets...

Well, you are a car thief and a killer... so, why should they stop for you? ;) Heh!

When I played GTAIII, I was curious about one of the secrets in the game. I put in the code and made everyone crazy. What I didn't know was that once I saved it, I couldn't turn it off. So, I got stuck having to deal with a bunch of madmen running around trying to kill me.
