jillo, I don't know...........I love the book and the movie, and all I saw was basicly a teen having a hard time growing up. Especially since the '60's was a time of major rebellion! It really didn't seem that she had that.
 
I feel so so so sick in my stomach whenever I read more stories about that evil monster. He doesn't deserve to live at all, not at all :mad:

Hope I am not sticking my nose where it doesnt belong but I think Liebling is laughing cuz she is having a hard time believing that an 88 or 90 year old is capable of abusing people. :dunno:

Believe me, old guys can be very abusive. This guy doesn't appear to be in fragile health, and he apparently has a very domineering way. If he gets out in 15 years, he'll still be strong enough and intimidating enough to abuse people who are weaker than him, especially children. Also, he apparently has enough "charm" to fool people and gain their confidence. He could appear to be a friendly grandpa next door, instead of the sex offender that he is. What would prevent him from abusing again?

I don't think an 88-year-old pervert is funny; I think it's disgusting and scary.

:gpost: That's the way I read it, too. However, I agree with Reba. An older man (or woman for that matter) is capable of abusing someone.

The way I read your post is that you don't think an elderly man is capable of abuse and some are. There are those 80-90 yr olds who are in VERY good health, and would be capable of hurting a child.

That's how I read it too. Even women if they're sociopathic enough can cause a great deal of harm to others. I speak from personal experience.
 
There is a woman at work that is probably 40-ish her husband is 30 years her senior, yeah there have been times she's come in with a black eye from a 70 year old man. Trust me its possible.
