Are deaf kids bullied/harrassed more frequently than hearing kids in mainstream?

then perhaps you don't understand my answer? majority of us are the result of our parents' decision to not consider "other" option. exactly what is it that you don't understand?

Ah, that is more clear. Interesting.

Ah, that is more clear. Interesting.

it's not really that interesting. a year or two has passed since you've participated in deaf-related threads and now you just find it interesting? :ugh:

it's sad. very sad. and extremely disappointing considering the fact that this has been going on for decades. exactly same reasoning. exactly same behavior. exactly same options.

that's why we're fighting to make them aware of ANOTHER option that has a high yield of positive results. it's pretty effective and it's cost-effective with low risk because it has multi-methods at once. we're also fighting to make them CONSIDER it along with other options because currently - the option we're fighting for is not included in most places that give advices to parents in this matter. in fact - most parents either have never heard of it or quickly disregard it due to their own personal bias and "well-advertised & well-constructed opinions"by oralists.... and also from people like you who continue to derail and distract our efforts without really understanding the issue.

Here's a real issue - the common option that most parents picked for decades... it has only one method and if that method failed - it's already too late to try another method since the crucial time period of mental/language/intellectual development has already passed. 3 years. that's how short that crucial time period is. that's why many of us are developmentally delayed. The option we want has dual methods (or more). If one method fails, there's already another method in place. How great is that??? It's an inclusive method.

and yet... you're sitting around with a smirk on your face and talking like an annoying parrot - "I support parents", "I disagree", and some generic response without understanding the underlying issue? you've just basically proved my point about vicious cycle that never changes.

try to remember this and repeat it yourself over and over again -

1. we do not care if deaf people want to hear.
2. we do not care if deaf people want to talk.
3. we do not care if deaf people do not want to sign.

we...... just...... don't...... care....... your life. your choice. fine by us!

4. we do care if deaf kids are struggling.
5. we do care if deaf kids are developmentally delayed because of a common option that most parents pick.
6. we do care if deaf kids are not living up to promise that most parents hoped for - to be able to hear and talk. it's a child abuse. period.

I understand the issue perfectly. I also understand parenting. We simply disagree. Again, I support facts over opinion regardless of which way they facts lead. it is up to the parent to choose their method for evaluating those facts. The only side I take is for parents to be informed and keep an open mind.

I don't think you know what methods are there. I don't think you know the facts behind these methods. I don't think you know what opinions are they. I don't think you know how and what are they informed about.

I think you have no clue.

So, you don't care. Okay, whatever.

Why would I care what someone else's opinion of me is? I have been very clear on this for years. Parents have to make tons of choices for their kids as they raise them and the best advice they can receive is "be informed and be open minded."

It is just games with him. From what I remember, he is late deafened so he really has no idea of the negative impacts on those of us who were born deafness when our parents forced us to follow the oral-only philosophy without any opportunities to learn ASL and be exposed to the Deaf community.

That is a pretty rude thing to say. Also untrue. Amazing that some people believe "be informed" and keep an open mind" (my positions) are a bad thing.

what happened to you is awful...i was not bullied at school but i had parents who bullied me and that affected me,if no have decent childhood it awful..
i knew of one man who had childhood like yours,he got no exams at school left early, then one day in his late twenties he realized that not the way to go, went to univicety and become a doctor brain surgon..One day one of his tormenters came see him and when finished consultaion asked where see him before and doctor told him he was boy who made his life hell at school...it famouse story

...No. Be informed and open-minded are fine! My issue is children's struggling and suffering, which you inconsistently ignored.

You said: "Why would I care what someone else's opinion of me is? I have been very clear on this for years. Parents have to make tons of choices for their kids as they raise them and the best advice they can receive is "be informed and be open minded."

It's not about you or someone's opinion of you. You know better what I said.

You kept saying ":cool2:" and snarky smiley many times, and to proclaim that you always support parents. You basically don't care what happened to those children.

Now, I ask you a serious question.

About "failure/imperfect" kids... those parents do not want to try another option (that's what Jiro talked about) and to highly expect their kids to be so "prefect". They do not want ASL (or sign language if they're from different country) because they are "stupid"... but, other methods are not work on their kids. Now, kids are so ****ed up and are in a shitty situation that parents don't bother to look for some solutions.

So what's your response to them? I ask you! Or, are you just going shrug off with :cool2: and ridicule my question again??

I love it when parents think that if they chose oral only that their kid will acheive a high level of spoken language. The propaganda from oral organizations implies that kids will acheive on par spoken language. Yes, its a far cry from the old days when there were a lot of kids who couldn't develop spoken language AT ALL. But kids are still not on par with hearing kids. All it means is that kids are still struggling to acheive sophisicated spoken language abilty. Whereas with ASL, they could acheive Harvard level mastery of thinking!

If what you are saying is true.....statistics will bare that out.

that's the problem. there are many of us with issues because our parents thought it was the best possible solution for us.

..... and even now in 2013.... this same ole' pattern is still continuing and we're putting end to it because we already have a proven system that works well for many, if not all, and covers many, if not all. you, on the other hand, are supporting to continue the flawed system. a costly one as well.

indeed, so much heartbreak unneccessary - i dont mean the romance kind, i meant the love of life, its ripped right out and left so many d/Deaf angry, confused, disoriented, full of despair, marginalised, often feel alone, and sad. its just UNNECCESSARY to bash in oralism on Deaf people, i really think if they never introduced CI,,,we'd have a lot stronger Deaf world by now, because the oralist would just give up...but nope they are hating Deafness moer than EVER !!!!

I strongly believe that as well.

the true costs is the LIVES of what d/Deaf people could have lead....the true aspiration to achieve, the emotional, the Osmosis ...
basically is TIME.
TIME is Money, and money is time, so the consequences of putting all the money in oralism is also the same as putting all the TIME in there, what's left?
so little time spend on d/Deaf people's real neccessity, the learning gone down the drain, the society will STILL continue to treat you like a medicalised Deaf person, mainly because the Cochlear Implant IS THE SYMBOL of Medicine, the Hearing world view of Deafness...

it's sick.
i nearly always vomit when i see someone wearing that...
it really does churn my stomuch

My :cool2: response was in direct reply to an opinion of me.

As for your question, it is a parent's job to raise their kid as they see fit. That simple.
