Oh your Deaf?? You must not care about music

Oh sure you're welcome but.....here's my advice, go read some other threads, get involved in them, post your opinion, views whatever, if you want to be involved in this forum. Get to know us, let us get to know you.....and maybe you wouldn't inadvertently step in it and accuse a late deafend HoH person that doesn't know ASL and is not involved in Deaf Culture of trying to keep HoH people out of Deaf Culture. That was awesome lol. Just saying. But def stop making threads about how much you know about Deaf Culture.

but one thing about using this site, you're not supposed to make multiple threads about the same subject and we generally don't post threads about our hearing in the general chat subforum. Just so's ya know.

Again, the only thing for me to do is to apologize, so I am sorry. I am only just learning about Deaf/deaf Culture I have only been involved for about a year. I never claimed to know everything about Deaf Culture well...because I don't. I was just sharing experiences of mine on in relation to these topics. I thought that was okay. I judged you because I was offended that you had such a poor opinion of me, someone you don't know anything about. You asked me if I was one of those HoH people trying to be deaf. When I just wanted information on what common experiences are between deaf/HoH people. In these few short days I've found this site, you've accused me of being a hypocrite, a kiss up, a deaf wannabe, e.t.c. Simply because I was making posts and because I don't know proper alldeaf Forum etiquette. I've only been here a few days. All I wanted was information thats all I guarantee that. I thought by making posts and sharing experiences I would learn from others and about their experiences. I am generally not a small-talker so I tend to get right into issues that a little substance to them if you know what I mean. Again I am sorry. I have seriously made myself misunderstood.

The difference between HoH/deaf & Deaf is like the difference between first generation Irish-American & first generation Mexican-American. Different cultures.

Okay thank you for the enlightenment, I thought I already knew this, but apparently I did not make this clear, I made myself too much of an aggressive person on this site without realizing it. On other forums its the other way around, people wont talk to you or know who you are unless you make posts sharing your experiences. Again correct me if I'm wrong please, but little d deaf from what I know is a person who isn't associated with Deaf Culture, its just an audiogram diagnoses, Big D Deaf is cultural Deaf. This is what I've learned, is this incorrect information, or is it good etiquette when referring to deaf people, to just use the little d until they made it clear that their Big D Deaf....again Thank you for being patient with people who don't know everything

no worries

BUT I didn't call you a wanna be or accuse you of being HoH trying to be deaf, I don't think anyone has ever tried to do that. I see more references of HoH trying to be hearing but whatever. Yes indeed I said it seemed like you were trying to kiss up, I can't see any other reason someone would come onto a deaf forum and try to inform us of Deaf Culture and terminology, like we need the heads up. If that's not what you were doing, my apologies. But we get a LOT A LOT of ASL students here. Yes I called you a hypocrite, you were being one. Accusing me of judging someone without knowing their history in one sentence and then you did the same thing in the next.

Water under the bridge

haha yes I did judge you, out of anger of being thought of as trying to educate a entire culture about themselves, that's just downright arrogance. Its the classic scenario of feeling pushed and pushed and constantly misunderstood to the point that I choose to retaliate. I made to major post, one on where the HoH fall between the hearing and deaf spectrum and how we are generally viewed. I wanted information. And second I was sharing an actual experience I had concerning me as a HoH person personally and seperately with the whole music thing, and another topic, also encountering person who automatically assumed that ALL deaf people don't like music or care for it, and how that irritated me. Than people started telling me I was confusing things, and that I had this attitude about myself and that this is why deaf people loathe HoH. I do want to talk with people and share experiences and make friends, but I don't want the constant fear of being bombarded with anger because I accidentally screwed up the big D and little d deaf. Whether you believe it or not as I said before in my other post I have learned a significant amount about myself and looking back on all my experiences as a HoH person and just looking for people to relate to and to have a good chat and share information.

Again and always thanks for your patience despite our "spat" earlier. I judged you because i felt a picture was already being painted of me so to speak. I got angry after enough of it that I decided to react instead of keeping calm. When some one has already judged you, its like they've taken away your chance to express who you are, because its already been determined, it leaves a person feeling powerless. I should have been mature enough to remain level headed and not have judged you right back. haha Feel like a good quote from Gandhi could be used right about now.

Just this week a guy I work with was asking me why I can talk if I can't hear. He had a hard time understanding that not all deaf are the same.

You should had ask the guy how can he talk if he does not have a brain!

Why do you think this, I am very clearly aware of what it means to be HoH and what it means to be Deaf, I just happened to share my personal experience with what one confused hearing person had commented to me about. Then I shared my experience in talking with a Deaf person I happened to encounter. Sorry if I didn't properly convey my level of understanding well enough for you, try reading my post again.

While spending a lot of time whining about how everyone has received you, and how you have been picked on, observe the bolded part of your response to my mild comment...

Some Deaf people really hate hoh people who think they are superior and imply the Deaf person can't read.

Ah I see you immediately took that to mean that I meant that deaf people couldn't read. No I said this because some people read only part of something get misinformed and get angry without ever fully reading what someone had to say. You jumped to conclusions, I am not stupid enough to go on a deaf forum and say something that ignorant that is so disgustingly wrong.

*sigh* Shara, Shara, Shara. When you are the newbie to the forum it does not behoove you to be condescending to the regulars. That is a huge part of the problem here.

I get it now! It's my fault for reading so poorly, that it looks to me like you said I couldn't comprehend your post!!!

Yes! Glad to know where we stand!

However I also see that I should have never even used that what was quoted by Bottesini nomatter how I meant that when I am talking and posting to community who has been constantly believed by the hearing community that they cannot read. You are right. I apologize, saying something like that is like casually making a racial joke amongst black people and expecting not to be called out on it. Just understand that I'd like to be understood to and to be asked questions rather than already have my picture painted for me so to speak

Please read my separate last reply, as well. It is an apology. Thanks for being patient.

Shara, may I suggest you take a break from posting and just browse the forum. You will probably learn a lot about Deaf and deaf and HoH. Be sure to let us know if you learn, and understand, about DEAF, because I don't think anyone here as figured that one out yet.

Point taken, I am exploring what various people have to say and its getting pretty abstract an complicated so far. I will be posting questions though as I'm reading in between writing a paper college sucks sometimes.

You sound like a hearing person. Hearing family members or any of the hearing people was hoping to have the deaf or hard of hearing to be listening to the music like the notes. I only hear the sounds like environment sounds, not notes. Also I can feel the vibration of loud enough from the sounds.

When I was driving my car with my in-laws, they turn up the radio but I could not hear well enough or make out what they are singing or making music. I just ignored the music and that is why I don't like radio because you can not read it (captioned). T.V. does have captioned for music. It help somewhat. :hmm:

When I was younger my older sister got in my car and I had the radio on and my sister said I had two stations on at once. I have trouble tuning a radio to one station. I hate it when there a person is singing on TV and there is no CC.

The utilization of the term- DEAF-one is DEAF(actual-not self described) but doesn't generally use ASL et al and more than likely actually has a Cochlear Implant.
This "group" is OUTSIDE the paradigm of Deaf(voice off)/hearing persons.which seem to populate most discussions.

Also: the "theory" of "Deaf culture" is just a supposition in Sociology.

How many DEAF persons subscribe to the above-unknown.

More discussions Sociology-culture=subsection "Deaf"

I don't use ASL and I'm not DEAF. I am deaf. If I ever qualify for a CI and get one I still will not be DEAF but deaf.

You, DrPhil, are the only one you uses DEAF to describe ones self. The rest of us do not need to shout it out to the world that we are deaf/Deaf.

Please straight to mind, how do clear to example deaf cannot hear voice...

cochlear implant can hear simply!

That is true. Dr.Dr.Phil limit not enough ASL. it is pretty limit learn how enough! should be learn ASL how visual on ASL support visual easy

I have stated many times I am bilateral DEAF since December 20, 2006. That fact will never change.

I was "lucky" the Cochlear Implant does bring "hearing".
Aside: the actual history of Implantation-Sunnybrook/Toronto since 1984 -2000 were NOT implanted out of 3000 patients were unable to benefit from Implants.

That has nothing to do with "learning/using" ASL

As pointed out before this "intermural discussion-"Deaf culture" is only an exercise in Sociology. How relevant to one's actual living=problematical.

aside: I have no intention of subscribing to "voice off subsection" of some Deaf persons. My choice.

A rather "interesting" discussion triggered by Shara's comments!

Still more in discussing Sociology.

Whoa, what's your problem, people? Shara just expressed that some hearing people are ignorant to think that Deaf don't dance. She pointed out that many deafies do dance to the vibration of music, even though they can't hear. Look at her title. That's what it's all about.

Thank you Captain Obvious :cool2:

But if you read through the thread and couldn't figure out the problem on your own......... I'm not going to bother trying to explain it to you.
