Thinking about Gallaudet next year...

If scandal was issue at Gallaudet so the president, administrative staffs or professors will resign from job and the university may face the questions from the congress or Department of Education.

It hadn't happened, except for 2006 but resolved.

You have completely misunderstood what I said. Rather than quibble, I would suggest you move on. You have stated your opinion and I have stated mine. If the OP would like additional info on these interviews they are free to DM me.

I didn't quote your post, so I don't know about what are you talking about.

Please refrain from using "quibble" (the moderator requested us in 2 months ago) and if you have problem with member so contact moderator via PM.

IGNOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. simple as that. IGNOOOOOORRRRRREEEEEEEE

There is information about visiting students and Gallaudet do have VSO that required all visiting students to attend.
Undergraduate Admissions

Better to discuss with VR or financial aid about paying for the education.

Learning. My family did not let me learn ASL because they thought it would keep me from speaking.

They have Jumpstart Program that can help you to become fluent in ASL and I recommended this program, however Gallaudet may require students with little ASL skill to attend upon attendance from the university.

you missed the weeds, who'd be selling it in 2013??
lol

I don't think that is a problem. From what I have read in the comments of some of the articles, everyone on campus is selling.

The selling weeds are common on many college campuses today, so that's sad because selling the weeds are crime.

oh I see..... this thread has turned from college visit into drug war....

That's cool, but odd. Usually rail stations make an area worse.

It improved Largo and now it is an upper class area.

Same with many other areas in DC.

Some got worse but the area around Gallaudet is definitely a huge improvement than when I was a student there 10 years ago. I was just in the area a week ago when I went to DC to visit TWA.

Again, my 2 cents, Gallaudet has a wonderful past, but that (IMO) has changed dramatically. I believe the "leadership" has divided the campus in a way that is not conducive to learning. I don't believe the students leave the school with competitive skills anymore.

Just like with large universities..some leave without competitive skills. Gallaudet is smaller so people notice it more and nitpick it.

I have a career and I graduated from Gallaudet. My brother graduated from there and he found 3 good jobs since then.

That is your choice. I have been researching Gallaudet for months and I disagree with you.

I might add that an outside, unbiased opinion (like mine) is more likely to be accurate.

If your opinion is accurate, then why do I have a job?

You are entitled to your opinion. Again, I disagree. Perhaps you should move on.

But, you are correct about one thing. I don't accept claims that Gallaudet has improved. In fact, I believe the quality of education has declined at Gallaudet for the most part.

I saw that another ADer said that you never went to Gallaudet so I am taking your opinion with a grain of salt.

To the OP, I would research the McCaskill situation and the players we hind that situation. Many of the deficiencies were exposed during that scandal. Still more problems are being revealed with the Molly Sachs arrest. My advice to you would be to do your research while remembering that alumni are going to be pretty biased in their opinion of their school. Which is understandable. BUT, look at what the alumni are actually putting back into the school compared to other schools. Money talks.

Best advice, keep in mind that college is about the future, not the present.

Oh yea..I have two friends who work or worked for IMB who graduated from Gallaudet. They dont flaunt their money like those hearing people you look up to.

I replied before reading the whole thread. I guess my replies were a waste of time.

Moving on.

I had a great experience at Gallaudet even with the slum neighborhood. I had no problems because I wasnt stupid to venture out alone at night.

Same with my experiences as a student at Arizona State University...dont venture out alone in dark areas at night in Tempe. There were some robberies and rapes there near the ASU campus as well.

Otherwise, why did ASU install those posts all over campus for students to contact the police whenever a crime was occurring?

Yup, only bad area around metro station is in southeastern DC and southern PGC, so Navy Yard isn't bad and I went to gay men club with my friends in this area. I went to PGC with my good friend and shopped in Bowie, so PGC isn't really bad, but some area like southern part is bad, since far east like Bowie and Largo are nice and northern part is okay, like College Park is interesting place and Greenbelt is used for shuttle bus to BWI. My gay friend lives in College Park right now and commute to Gallaudet everyday.

I lived in Springhill Lake apts in Greenbelt while I was a Gallaudet student and it was near the Greenbelt Metro Station. Even having a nice car, I chose to take the bus to the Metro station to go to Union Station to get on the bus to Galllaudet. Not once did I have a problem with anyone in any of these areas and the Springhill Lake apt area by the metro station was notorious for crime at the time.

It is all about taking as much safety steps as one can.

My point is...crime is everywhere. Look at the Connecticut shootings. If one wants to single Gallaudet out as a crime-infested area, then one has to accept that nice areas like Newtown, CO can have horrific crimes happen as well.

It sucks and I wish it wasnt this way. We all have just to use our best judgement and just go on with our lives to the best as we can. By living in fear, it will decrease our quality of life.

I admit when I first moved to DC to go to Gallaudet, I was terrified of the area around it. Looking back ,it was more of a culture shock coming from Phoenix, AZ out in the desert to inner city in DC.

After 6 months, I got used to it and didnt even give it a second thought. I had always locked my car while driving and that habit was brought with me to DC.

Smaller schools generally have more success, that is part of the reason. Gallaudet is very expensive, and federally funded, therefore we have a Right to expect more. As an alumnus, It benefits you for GU to maintain a strong reputation as well.

If your opinion is accurate, then why do I have a job?

Probably because you were a good student and applied yourself. I never said GU alums were unemployable. In fact, one of my friends is a GU alum and he has been very successful in the private sector.

I saw that another ADer said that you never went to Gallaudet so I am taking your opinion with a grain of salt.

And you are well within your rights to do so. However, my opinion is well researched including many interviews. The general consensus was that Gallaudet needs a massive overhaul. They LOVE GU but they are unhappy with the way things are going there currently.

I don't know that I look up to any "hearing people who flaunt their money." I am glad they are successful. IBM is a great place to work.

Yes, many campuses are having safety issues now. It's a shame.
