Should ASL be reserve to culturally Deaf people only?

What typo ??

It wasn't a typo... It was actually a word that was off the wall that made no sense.

I mentioned it because (oh and i didn't mention the typo where faire jour spelled judgemental twice in one post) she PREACHED english fluency because it was the only fluent language in the family ... but guess what... she aint fluent.

That thread you are talking about, when I put the :giggle: I was being attacked for typing a similar word, and was being called stupid. And PFH said that through sounded similar to whatever word.....I don't remember exactly, but yeah, I laughed because he was calling me stupid for mistyping.

It wasn't a typo. :giggle:

Even Wiki said it wasnt..

When you resort to such ridiculousness, it makes you look like you don't have a leg to stand on

I am suggesting that everyone's perspective is valid, not just one.

I was being attacked for a typo and I found it ironic, yes.

I have never once told someone that they are lying about what they went through (like PFH is doing now). There is a huge difference between saying that methodologies have changed and claiming that someone is lying about their experiences.

Where did I say you are claiming someone is lying about their experiences? Your own post said that everyone's perspective is valid, not just one. I did not utter a single word about anyone lying about their perspectives. My post and reply was about how you invalidate everyone else's perspectives.

Well, it's ridiculous that you use "fluency" as an excuse to get around things... Which was exactly my point. At least I "look like I don't have a leg to stand on"... You have none with that excuse.

How? How am I invalidating? Just because I believe they use different terminology and methodology today? That somehow makes your experience less valid? I have never said anything like that.

Uhhh ok...

the point is...

stop belittling ASL. Enough is enough.

English is NOT the superior language.

With your attitude.. It's all over this forum. Most of the times actions speak much louder than words typed up on the forum....

I am perfectly fluent in English, and you know it. You just look foolish claiming otherwise

Who belittled ASL? Show any post! Every single person involved in this thread knows that ASL is a full language, equal to any other language.

Your typo was one in which you used/spelled a word incorrectly.

You made fun of PFH for not knowing how to say the difference. By giggling. That was a true insult to all deaf people.

So it is perfectly acceptable to claim that I am not fluent in English, but when he makes an error, when HE is the one who brought up the way the word sounds, that isn't ok?

No. You parents demand to know where to find resources for learning sign. We try our best to tell you, even offer to practice with you by using skype or VP. Have a single one of you taken us up on it ? No. No. No. NO !!!!!!

No. We share how we learned speech therapy and the like, and we get told "oh no, that's just not how it's done." YES, by god, that is exactly how it was done. For US. I don't give a shit if it's done different for your daughter today. It's STILL how it was done for us. You're invalidating our experiences with all the No, No, NO !!!!!!!!

Sadly , I have to agree with this one. I have a huge vocabulary, but a lot of it I wouldn't know how to say out loud.

or as another ADer said a few years ago..

"No, my child will NOT be like you!!! " (her implanted child will not like be us, unimplanted people)

It sounds eerily familiar now.

Wow.

Many of us, deaf or hearing alike, misspell.

You don't poke fun of a deaf person for how something is pronounced.

I totally get you now.

Wow.

Some things just go in cycle... when one person does it, another person does it back.
