Should ASL be reserve to culturally Deaf people only?

You not even oral only anymore. I've seen you sign.

Oh, I'm oral, definitely. My main mode of communication has always been speaking and listening.....not signing.

The point is that I'm happy even before I knew signing. My mother never resented her decision with me and I thank her for that.

And I think she resent it and wished she went the other route because she seen too many who can hear and speak .sure she went toward ASL but it doesn't mean kshe's happy.
I think too that she's scared that Kat won't be spoken language fluent, and that's causing a lot of her rants against us. She also doesn't realize that while implanted kids can hear and speak, their spoken language abilty ranges all over the place. Yes, it's rare to have a kid with only a handful of words....but then again she doesn't realize that it's also pretty rare for a dhh kid to be on par with spoken language. Many oral sucesses still have a lot of hoh style spoken language delays.

I know. Just point out that only she only knows her motives :) To me, she is just another AD member.

Deafgal, I don't know what is it about my posts that makes you think I'm aiming some hidden message at you. I'm not. In the Lies about CI thread you made several comments referencing various posts of mine, implying that these were some kind of secret message or dig at you. They weren't. I didn't know you had an issue with static and my mention of the CIs and gas stations myth was hurtful -- I apologized for treating it lightly. I don't know what trigger my mention of a poll is pulling, but these messages have all been directed very specifically in answer to other people's messages, not at you. My motivation is to participate in a conversation and to respond and interact, I'm not after you, or mocking you, or whatever it is you have said or are now implying. If you've asked me a question that I've missed, I'm not ignoring you, I must have missed it, so just let me know, I've enjoyed talking with you in the past, and you ordinarily have a perspective I'm interested in, I'll respond very directly.

That post about the poll was not about that at all. Not about motive either. Just that if there was a motive only you would know, not us. Also another way of saying "who cares".

I can't explain it but I can tell you I don't think you have a motive.

as far as the static, I thought you were targeting my post because I never heard of that rumor about the gas station (I must have missed it) all is good.

I made up that rumor about the gas station. I saw in another thread about cell phone interference allegedly causing an explosion at a gas station. So I thought it would be a great lie to add, even though I started the lie. :D But apparently, someone has heard of it before.....

You want to know what I'm actually thinking, or would you rather make your own judgements?

I am sick of judgements, misinformation, "My way is the only RIGHT way", "Your child is going to miserable, messed up, and hate you unless you do it MY way". I'm sick of unsubstantiated claims (like those you make in this very post). I'm sick of people saying that all the research is biased, that the things I have seen with my own eyes is a lie and impossible. I'm sick of people who pretend that "their way" has absolutely ZERO problems, drawbacks or cons. I am sick of people making themselves feel important by attacking others choices. I am sick of being told what I believe. It is all such garbage.

Why don't you set up a poll and we can all justify our existence to you, Jillio. Then you can take all that hard data and cite it whenever you feel the urge.

What the ?????????

So....should ASL be reserved for the culturally deaf or not?

No, but it should be respected as a language as equal as any spoken language.

Same for Auslan, BSL, LSQ, and any other signed languages.

Enough with the oppression and thinking that hearing and speaking is superior.

We all are humans and nobody should be cut off from language and communication just to conform to the majority. That was what happened to many of us and it is so crappy to do that to people.

Fine, you are happy but why the belittling of other people who are different from you? :hmm:

Right back at you. Why is ok for people on the forum to call oral only deaf people illiterate, social misfits, say that they are miserable, and on and on, when they themselves say they are happy????
