1. Try download latest patch for Quake 4

2. Try run Compatibility mode to Vista SP3 or XP SP3 and run again.

Workaround how to run Quake 4 on Win 7 below.

1) I don't know if you remember back then -- when ATI released their flagship 4870, they were beaten by the newly released GTX275, then GTX280, then GTX285. ATI then released the 4890 to compete with 285 and lowered the prices on 4870 and below.

2) Point is, both are businesses and both are out to make a profit, not to sell at low prices. Hypothetically speaking, if AMD's bulldozer demolished all Intel processors in almost every category, you can be damn sure they'll jack the prices of their flagship processor to $1000 -- Athlon FX, anyone?

1) I had used it (ancient video card) on my own but I did not research on ATI at all in past and present.. Due, deaf people forced me to get ATI video card meanwhile I was ignorant & knowledge zero about pc building & stuffs before got nvidia on my own. Due I was followed them, because they said ati is best without explain.

Why AMD selling processors for lowest decent price then Intel processor? they should selling amd video card for lowest price if amd processor soldered on video card unit. I don't care ati is best but ati still looks crap to me, imo. AMD video card has lack of feature PhysX nor support multi cards ulike nvidia does.. please prove me if i am wrong.

2) what... Athlon FX? I haven't heard about Athlon FX.. which one of processor or videocard is for Athlon FX ?

alhton fx is so expensive. it was like 600 buck in day when amd was leading with that old flagship lol

XBgamer, I have GRID in storage somewhere lol.

I am not sure if I need a pair of Video card with SLI enabled but they can only run full speed 16x lanes and second one 8x lanes while SLI.

I couldn't find any mobo that support full 16x 16x SLI anywhere ?

BTW, I could buy used other GTX 260 or one single GTX 460 1GB less $150 in the future, If I bought used GTX 260 then I have to look for new motherboard with SLI *sigh*

MDA, Yeah I do have GRID on steam.

Yes I highly recommending that you should buy another decent video card with sli enabled or nonsli for dedicated PhysX as multi card. If you used the single card only which is share & fps limit.

for example

You like to see more visual graphic video games, or some video games required physX support, then get multi card for physX. For good example GTA IV does required physX support. but you don't have to..

MDA, Wow you are first person who mentioned it in my whole life unlike others never mentioned like that. I never thought of that 2 x 16 runs sli motherboard instead of 1x16 & 1x8. I admit my motherboard runs 1x16 & 1x8. but i am still learning. thank you for bring up about 2 X16s.

Finally, I admitted my mistake about between SLI and GTA IV.

I found a benefit from SLI or more than 1 video card is physX support for GTA IV.

Sorry about being ignorant and argue with you about GTA IV and SLI.

I do have GeForce 8800 GT (of course, they are PhysX supported) in my drawer so that means I can use that as dedicated PhysX support?

you... didn't know 2 video cards (aka SLI) are always better than 1 video card? :eek3:

1) Pretty much any x58 motherboard or x55 (1156) supports CF/SLI -- no need to hunt down specific motherboards -- if a x58 motherboard says it's SLI compatible, it's a marketing scam.

2) Check out Hardforum, guy there did a test on CF 5870 in 8x8 and 16x16 -- he only lost like what, .5-2 fps?

1) Once i bought the wrong motherboard which wont support SLI configuration, but support CF only. Grrr, I returned it and exchanged the different motherboard which support sli configs. Now I am more careful when I buy the upgradeable SLI motherboard with specified sli configs.

2) hardforum is good, but i observed it, they are obsess with MATX and HTC PC stuffs.

No, use single video card and use other one as dedicated physX support aren't really SLI.

FOX, finally you are the MAN! i accept your truly apologize because you show me you're true man! ;)

Your Geforce 8800 GT is ABSOLUTELY the deciated PhysX support! check out: Nivida GPU PhysX lists.

No problem, sometime, I do have trouble to understand about some members are saying.

I should read more slowly and more than once.

That's great news for me and hopefully would help GTA IV because I got around 20-30 fps with anything on low-medium, even updated to Quad Core does help some. I had tweaked this game to get more FPS but seems anything isn't very helpful.
