fyi, a Burqua and a Hijab are different articles of attire. Just sos ya know.

Nah...... Apples to oranges.

obama is temporary.......even if he is two terms. The people will decide that at the polls.

However protecting citizens is a function of government. Sometimes governments have to make tough choices like in this case......Protect women's rights/national security vs. protect religious rights. France made their choice (well supported in polls there). Again pretty simple. They can leave and go to another country or they can abide by the law and try to change it. You can't please everyone........ :)

By your logic we should allow cults to do as they please with children because they are citizens too. What about honor killings? Should we not prosecute those because they are part of a groups culture???

Culture? And what about dem NAMBLA "culture"?

*ugh*

So, you think hijabs are allowed for driver license pictures?

I think they need to show their full face. but as far as headcovering, I don't really care. In some religion, some women actually wear wigs as their headcovering. when my mother had cancer, she did NOT want to remove her cloth headcovering for pictures and wigs irritates her (she did not like the feel of wig during her treatment, even with a cloth protection. Her treatment made her supersensitive) She was bald.

I think the rules for driver license should be any headcovering that cast shadows on your face or cover your face is not allowed. This would include baseball caps

You're grasping at the straws as usual.

I don't believe they banned it in the name of national security nor women's rights. They banned it in the name of religious hatred. The government of France has always been dodgy. This is nothing new.

Here, here is an example of a hate crime.

A 26-year-old Muslim convert was walking through the store in Trignac, near Nantes, in the western Loire-Atlantique region, when she overhead the woman lawyer making "snide remarks about her black burka". A police officer close to the case said: "The lawyer said she was not happy seeing a fellow shopper wearing a veil and wanted the ban introduced as soon as possible."

At one point the lawyer, who was out with her daughter, is said to have likened the Muslim woman to Belphegor, a horror demon character well known to French TV viewers. Belphegor is said to haunt the Louvre museum in Paris and frequently covers up his hideous features using a mask.

An argument started before the older woman is said to have ripped the other woman's veil off. As they came to blows, the lawyer's daughter joined in.

France has first 'burka rage' incident - Telegraph

This isn't a law designed to protect the women. It'll only inflict more harm upon them.

This isn't the way to do it.

But again, what do you expect from the government of France?

and if it was a law to protect the values and customs of the French... why do they have McDonald's restaurants?

Wouldn't that be Americanizing the French?

What about them passing this ban? Isn't that Americanizing in its purest form?

Meh.....I trust the French more than I trust our current government. But then again I trust the actor that played Napoleon in butter commercials more than our current government.

Have you ever been to a McDonalds in France? Doesn't exactly reek of pro Americanism...

Not really the point here. The point is, the French government claimed it was to preserve and protect the French culture and its values/customs.

It's simply not true.

McDonald's is an American icon. They don't look any different from the ones in the USA and Canada. Did you know that the French heavily protested the introduction of McDonald's in France back in the 1970s? They felt it was an American cultural invasion.

If they really did want to protect the French culture and everything associated with it, they would had never let any outsiders in the first place.

Exactly. Our government has become adept at manipulating public emotions and sentiments. This is just the French government trying their hand at it, no more and no less.

and how they fall for it so easily...

But some of us get wise to it. Not enough of us, though.

That's the thing. People in general are like herds and herds of sheep.

Muslims are Evil.

Baa! Baa! Baa!

President Obama is Evil.

Baa! Baa! Baa!

Hollywood is Evil.

Baa! Baa! Baa!

It's nauseating repetitive and doesn't do much for us.
