but how does a 100% stone deaf person talk without learning to hear?

.

I have been hearing for 63 years and I still come across sounds that I never heard before, don't recognize, and have to ask someone who knows or try to hunt it down.

How can you know if it is the squeal of brakes, a peacock, or cat on a fence if someone doesn't work with you on your hearing skills?

It is unacceptable to me. First a child must learn to hear, then they can learn to talk....makes sense, doesn't it!

Let me ask you this - would you enroll Missy Kat to loml's program if it's in your state?

I said it was hard, not impossible. Do you disagree that if you could hear better, you could self-correct, and learn pronunciation just from hearing a word spoken?

If that was the case, then why there are hoh people who werent able to develop speech skills? I am talking about those who were placed in oral-only environments..I have one student who came from an oral only environment with almost no oral nor ASL skills (no language at all) and he can hear at 40 dB without his hearing aids.

Then, there's me who hear at 120 db wihtout my hearing aids since birth but yet was able to speak fluently although nasally according to many hearing people.

I have no idea. I would have to visit it, see if she would fit, etc. I really know nothing about it.

loml posted enough about her ideal and method. I suppose you're not very confident in her program?

Embarrassedly raising my hand. I have 70db in my good ear and quite poor speech skills.

Just saying hearing better makes things easier. How can you understand what someone voices is you can't hear it?

I am listening to my dad and stepmom chat with each other and I can identify whose voice is whose..I just cannot understand what they are saying..that's the biggest issue with many deaf and hoh people.

Jiro - What an odd question. There has never been any discussion regarding where I work and the details of the program.

Would like to buy some ice?

It is apparent that your poor speech skills didnt prevent you from having higher literacy skills. I know that your style of writing is more advanced than mine...

Thanks Shel! I don't think it is true, but that is nice for you to say.

Didn't work for Kissinger -- Maybe he just wasn't listening.

Oh..it is ..my style of writing is very simple..u have a more creative way with writing that I have difficulty in achieving no matter how much I read. I am a trained educator to identify the different styles of writing and those who use English in creative ways have advanced literacy skills. I think my writing reflects the lack of creativity due to my missing out on so much growing up.

No need to know where you work or the details of your program. Your posts and opinions alone are enough to get the gist of your stance. Otherwise... you wouldn't work there, right?

I surely do! My 3rd cup of coffee is just bit too hot!
