Labs, Goldens and Shepherds are most popular as guides due to their temperament, intelligence, versatility, size and availability. Dogs trained as guide dogs must be intelligent, willing workers, large enough to comfortably guide in harness and small enough to be easily controlled and fit comfortably under restaurant tables and on buses and other forms of public transit. The three common breeds used for this work were selected because a large number of individuals of these breeds met the requirements necessary for a good guide dog and these breeds could most easily be matched with the widest range of blind people and their needs in a guide. Additionally, these three breeds are popular in the United States and obtaining them for training or supplementing breeding stock has proved easier than obtaining less common, but perhaps equally suitable breeds.

Fighters, not lovers!

You see, pit bulls are bred to be fighters cause that's what the generations has been like.

Labs are bred to be lovers. Like I said, generation. Those before the people who trained them has been training them the same way for many years.

Same for pit bulls. They have temperament, intelligence, versatility, size, and availability to be service dog. But why labs, goldens, and shepherds are "preferable"? Because they are more presentable to public. Because of stereotype and fear - the sight of pit bull is enough to cause unpleasant feelings for many people.

American Pit Bull Registry says they would make a good choice, not that they are commonly used as guide dogs.

Bob Marley link is about one dog. Hardly fits into the "commonly used" criteria you used.

Therapy dogs are not the same thing as guide dogs. One state out of 50 hardly meets the criteria for "commonly used".

Like I said - do the search and you can find at least one for each state. :cool2:

Yes, and there is a reason for that.

Rottweilers are originally bred as vicious attack dogs on front line for Roman Empire Army because of their size and strength. Labs are bred as hunting dogs because of their endurance in all weathers, waterproof fur, and webbed paws. Train and trait are completely different. Trait are deeply ingrained and programmed in dog's DNA which is why all breeds have slightly different personality and different physical strength/characteristic. Yes pit bull are bred to be game fighter but that's just physical characteristic - strong jaws, able to pull twice its weight, smaller ears. They do not inherit "fighter" gene. They must be trained and conditioned to be a vicious fighter.

No breeds are born vicious. The dog LEARNS aggressiveness from owner. That dog's offspring will not inherit aggressiveness.

Then those dogs born deaf aren't deaf, they were raised to be deaf.

ILLOGICAL.

Dogs can be born to be vicious. You're just defending Pit Bulls cause you are vicious.

you're talking about physical defect. I'm talking about personality trait. Actually Dalmatian are prone to deafness - that's if you want a deaf dog :laugh2:

golden shepards are supposedly the dumbest breed *erhmm a dog trainer told me that one time.

Never heard of a golden shepherd.

pit bulls are the most loyal, they have to be trained to attack in my opinion, my first dog will be a pitbull *hate the deed not the breed!!!*

I don't have a pit bull myself, but my son-in-law does. She is the most tame and kind dog I've seen. My poodle trys to attack her. I know there are pits who attack, but this one gives kisses to the new baby.

Mod's Note:

As this thread has been going off topic again.

The creator of this thread have decided a topic on cloning. Therefore, thread's closed.

Deaf Culture VS Hearing Culture is something that will be hard to debate for it's not a very knowledgeable subject for many people.

Cloning is a very old topic that was once debated heavily 10 years ago.

Pit Bulls is also a very old topic.

I think Gay Adoptions would be a good topic since that's something a lot of people are currently familiar with these days. :)
