BAD NEWS: DVD Player = NO (CC) Support!

SDH and subtitle are not same.

SDH almost same as CC for background sound. I really like SDH over CC.

Please explain why you choose SDH after (CC)?

I told you, I have new TV have an option for (CC) to change Font, color, shadow, box color, transparent, and much more. Now what do you can change on SDH? tell me what you can do with this feature?

Good Job Duskywolf,
Thank you

My fault? you sound ridiculous because if there No subtitles and (CC) then you are out of order...... So think about future for our deaf people and you didn't think twice before you saying a word. Do you know film people make million dollars than you made a year then stop whine. Also be careful what you saying. I know my right and Thanks.

Yes, I have Sony 47", but I use old DVD Player 480i, work CC, I bought 4 time new dvd player, not work CC for 480p to 1080p, and back my money. I know hear phillps bulti-in but it is only Analog CC version don't have change font, size, color etc.. Sony 47 have two Analog and Digital, but OTA is Digital, can change any fonts, size ,etc.. I have Motolina DVR, bulti-in Digiral CC, but I am not happy, it is very slow, weak, bad real-time (news, sport, etc..3 line scroll), I turn off CC for DVR switch to 480i, turn Sony 47"'s CC, perfect smooth, clear, same DVD Player 480i perfect.. I wish DVD Player bulti-in Digital CC not Analog

Amen! I glad you agreed. We the people need to do something. Did you know that I have Sony 40" TV have custom (CC) which you can change the caption look and style than just a plain text and box. there so much thing you can do with new features.

As you speak of custom CC - it's digital CC which any device, behind OTA or landline support, cannot support well. That something it may not work for HDMI or Component. You can ask the electric engineer the question. It's eh.. complex.

SDH and Subtitle don't have crying, door, bomb.. exp: [crying baby].. [knock door] etc.. CC have it

I hate SDH and Subtitle many dvd each and each font and each size
exp:
Harry Potty = small font, roman font,
10,000 B.C. = middle font, aril,
etc..

Digital CC choose font, color, size, non-soild or soild background ANY for only OTA and DVR, I like Digital CC better! but DVD Player don't have Digital CC, I will wait future

Nah. I like (CC) better. Let me explain you the point.

Hearing can control sound like Bass, Treble, and Volume.

Deaf only can turn on/off for Subtitle (SDH). I want that? NAH! I would like have custom (CC) than just plain ugly subtitles. if you happy with it then good for you.

Any comment?

Good grief!

Time for you to learn about SDH.

Let me make brief.

Yes, SDH does include the noise background. What else SDH stand for? Subtitle for deaf and hard of hearing.

Subtitle is for learning between English and other language on voice/text.

ha, I like you same I already told them past at alldeaf.com's Captioning & Sign Language Interpreter
I know SDH and Subitle is only one limit, Digital CC is lot of options

I'm talking to rhr, not you.

rhr was referred about DVD has SDH and he don't like it then complain so repeatly.

Read so carefully.

I can read it, it looks fine. ;)

DVD wouldn't able to get digital CC due source issue, most film industries are replace into SDH, SDH is much cheaper than producing the CC, even subtitle and CC in combined. SDH can be played on portable DVD player but CC can't, unless if have CC decoder built-in.

All BD movies has SDH, none of them are CC support due source issue via digital.

Try change the contrast on your TV to little darker then can read so easily.

If DVD has CC support only and doesn't support CC via component cable or HDMI then you are struck with composite cable at 480i, that's final option for DVD player or download the DVD player software or using Windows Media Player to watch DVD movies.

I prefer to watch DVD movies on laptop over portable DVD player because of CC support and comfort to watch.

Yes, that would give problem if stick with CC, and no way we could able to get subtitle/SDH on other hardware to watch without CC built-in.

If every hardware have to add CC built-in, it cost more, we pay more.

That's why SDH/subtitle are frickin cheap. Hush, baby, bush!

Yup, that's true.

I'm glad that few DVD player software are invented CC decoder to support it, such as Apple DVD player.

Yes, I thought same thing until I test (CC) on both analog and digital channels and the custom (CC) work both which surprised me. I don't believe this and it's work! Now I hook my old DVD player through component to TV and custom (CC) work too!!!!!! But it run on 480i so I decided to purchased new Sony DVD player with HDMI then I figure out that it's not support CC then I switch to component same result cause me confused. I called Sony tech support about this issue and said they think (CC) not necessary because of subtitle which they think good enough for us. I did check all my collect movies and found that some movie only support (CC) and not subtitle. I do not understand why they brought up first DVD player in long time ago which support (CC) since until now decided to stop support. This is not make any sense and why not they should stop since first DVD player came out support subtitle only. Therefore, they must stay to support this because of some old disc only support (CC). I have no idea about Blu-ray and support ugly subtitles. End of discussion.

Not true about HDMI or Component because they didn't think about us. They keep forgot about us and think about perfect people want top quality video, sound. The (CC) and subtitle are less priorities to them because we are less important. I am sure they can figure out to fix this unless we fight for our right and make new law. People can make any excuse for the problem. Did you know that HDMI was fix twice through version 1.1 to 1.3 because of bit problem in history.

Be honest with you, if there no law about required (CC) for TV then they will not put (CC) in it. We thank to the law in FCC to required them put the (CC) decode inside. Now I tell you that there no law against for them remove line 21 on DVD player, HDMI and future device until we fight or create the law to make them do it.

Look everyone, all you hear thousand excuse from engineer or tech support about the cost and problem. I tell you 1,000 times that they think we are less important to them so SDH is cheaper way and that is correct. Now I notice most of you are very passive and they will win over you. All of company make million dollars every year. They do not care about you only money profit. Unless there is a law they will follow and stuck with it. Now I tell you again, TV have (CC) decode build in already follow by law. DVD Player and HDMI not support it, do you know why? Because there no law against it unless we fight it or create new law. That's it.

Now Think, if there no law about required (CC) decode build in TV and you will be out of order...........

That's why we thank you to deaf people in past did fight for our right and create law. Now I tell you that our law have some hole in it and need to fill up the hole.

We need do something about this.....

Thank you.

Actually, I've seen those on SDH.

Remember, SDH means Subtitled for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. So, think of it as subtitles in closed-captioned style.

So, they do include audio clues and hints like regular closed captioning does.

The differences between CC and SDH is that CC is usually white with black background "boxes" (unless otherwise changed via settings) and SDH is pre-aligned (usually centered) when shown on television.

Hey 395 views, please discuss and comment about issue, I would like listen from you. Also please not be chicken. Text out loud........ Not sit back do nothing like idiot. Thank you.

You said it yourself...

For the Harry Potter movie, you listed two different English subtitle options. The first is "English" which is NORMAL subtitles. The second is "English SDH" which is like subtitled in CC style. So, if a deaf person wanted to watch the movie in subtitled format for deaf people... he would pick the second option.

For 10,000 B.C., you listed no SDH. Well, that happens on some DVDs. Some DVDs have SDH and some don't.

So, if you see a DVD case that says it's SDH... then that means it's like CC.
