No foxrac,
I don't think it is ever okay to bully anyone gay or straight. It is never okay to bash gays. But don't you feel that the bullying of the GLBT world and even in schools has lessened since it is more socially excepted now than any other time in history?
That's good about you think, however you don't have to deal with bullying because you are homeschooling your children - totally bully-free place to teach.
Unfortunately, it is getting worse than before and not all school have anti-bullying programs, even local school in my area don't. One of my neighbor told me that local school got some report about anti-GLBT bullying and her daughter is currently at high school so she heard about "gay" so often. Now, she hate high school in our area due to high teen pregnancy, bullying, threat letter and test scores are declining, even we live in good suburb and this school is over 95% white. Our state require all public school to adopt anti-bullying policies but it does not include specific, especially sex orientation and some school districts, especially Jefferson County School and few suburb school included sex orientation in anti-bullying policy, however surprise, Birmingham City School doesn't and their school district is poor and trashed, just similar to Detroit.
Often, without anti-bullying programs, students would have to bullying to realize about what kind of consequence they get for violation of policy. It is cheaper if teachers explain about school policies on first day of class and it is uncommon for teachers to explain about class rules, school district policy, dress code, tardy policy, etc.
I have heard about some
straight students got bullied by anti-gay and labeled them as gay. That's extremely sad and I hate to hear any labeling against others.
I wish all bullies need to be stopped and it is immature to call gay, queer, faggot, etc. Just let gay communities to have normal life without hear any nasty bullies.
I'm victim of bullying and got out of school for 2 weeks due to psychiatric reason, even I was about couple of months away from graduation in 2006.
