A jury on Wednesday sentenced the Al Qaeda conspirator to life in prison without the possibility of parole instead of sending him to death row.

Moussaoui could only have been put to death if the jurors unanimously decided he should receive the death penalty. Moussaoui, 37, will likely spend the rest of his years in the "Supermax" facility in Florence, CO, which also houses failed shoe bomber Richard Reid.

It is better than getting the death penalty. Know why? He really wishes to get over and be killed rather than staying alive in the prison for long live term...

Normally I am a strong proponent of the death penalty, which I think should be expanded to those who rape children as well as murderers.

But in THIS case I truly think that forcing him to rot in that little cell will be a better punishment by far. As it is now, he would not fear death. But I liked the judge's paraphrase of TS Elliot, that he will go out instead with a "whimper".

Inmates who are Vietnam Veterans or veterans of another wars or patriotic inmates will kill him in prison. He will not be alive in the big house. It would not surprise me. The whole prison will have a big riot because they do not want him there and probably will kill him in the process, even if he is in solitary confinement. All they have to do is break out a major fight which erupts into a riot and run through the halls and the guards in their right minds will have no choice but to get out of there then the inmates get Moussaoui, beat him up so violently and shiv him to death. Payback time for 9/11/01. Personally, I think he should be executed.

Only if they inject air directly into his bloodstream through his veins, or slowly, over a few days, withdraw blood from him.

Did you know that is actually in the CIA manual for tourture methods to obtain information ? It has since been banned from both the printing press or online in Abode pdf format. They withdraw blood drop by drop .... but if you inject air in the veins then he will die instantly.

I disagree; I think it's more of a punishment to this guy to let him rot in his cell. This way, he doesn't get to become a martyr and ascend to heaven where 72 virgins would await him.

I also suggest feeding him porkchops three times a day and have a 20 X 24 picture of a flying pig just out of arm's reach.

The "supermax" prison where this guy would be doesn't allow prisoners to be in contact with any other but guards AT ALL, so no chance for other inmates to kill him. Just imagine how isolating an existence that would be. He deserves every second of it and more.

All it takes is for one or two inmates to start the prison takeover and unlock thousands , maybe millions of cells either by the switch of electronic hardware or doing it by hand , open each cell up with a key. The guards are either 1 of 3 things, bound, taken hostage or dead. No prison is ever 100% secure, Remember that then these guys will go after Moussaoui and beat, kill him then all hell breaks loose, The US Army Delta team are called in. They will not call the US Army National Guard because those inmates who end up in " supermax " prisons are very extremely dangerous and very highly trained individuals which requires the services of the US Army Delta team and paramilitary police teams very highly trained to stop a supermax prison takeover. Granted, supermax prisons are much harder than state or federal prisons but a military brig has much more strict security than the supermax prisons. I would not be surprised if word got out to the supermax inmates that Moussaoui is now housed at the supermax correctional institution. Hell will break loose and they will want to fight to kill this terrorist. It will be all or nothing if those inmates are given one inch of ground and the prison is gone, man !!!! That is why the supermax prison guards can not afford to allow one inch of ground to be taken over by the inmates housed in supermax. Supermax are where very dangerous killers live.

I heard on the news that the prison has about 400 cells, but only 200 prisoners right now.

The prisoners have no contact with each other, not even eye contact.

Even when the prisoners are taken out for their one-hour exercise times, they go out one at a time, and they wear shackles.

"Alcatraz of the Rockies"--the Supermax prison of Colorado

The soundproofed cells were designed so inmates cannot make eye contact with each other. Each 7-by-12-feet cell has a long, narrow window looking out at other prison walls or the small concrete recreation yard.

Concrete platforms topped with mattresses function as beds. Each cell also contains a concrete stool, shower and toilet.

Hood said inmates see no current news on the small black-and-white TV, and some of the programming is official prison material. “If a newspaper is allowed it will be time-delayed,” the former warden said.

Inmates get one hour out of their cells each day to eat or play basketball or handball, though some earn longer recreation periods through good behavior. They can take academic courses via closed-circuit television in each cell. Religious services are conducted in a small chapel.

The religious services are conducted in a chapel but they are sent to the prisoner by closed circuit TV.

On top of how great supermax is, I'm also told that he will receive his meals through a small slot in the door...they don't even have to let him out to eat or have contact with anyone.

Taylor & Heath,

Believe it or not, this is the first time I've ever heard of this supermax prison is. I saw part of the news where it showed this bozo was under escort inside a dark Chevrolet Suburban, much like the ones used by the Secret Service to guard the president and vice-president of the United States.

Such isolation, but necessary. Even though I haven't been a happy camper (sometimes) with the police, I side with them 100 percent on this one. This is enough to make me want to pack one myself.

I remember seeing a docuementary on Discovery Channel ? and the program was about the supermax prison..... something that I never forgot from the tv program was where one of the AB brothers ( AB = Aryan Brotherhood ) was doing physical fitness excersices and the prison guards said he was a killing machine. Always fighting and in superb physical condition, ripped abs and cut muscles on his arms, legs very strong, his whole body was fit, no fat on his body frame and a very hard muscular head, his chin was square and very flat no fat under his chin at all. His back had muscles all over him. He was doing modified situps that speed up and harden the abs with guards near by and he wasn't somebody to mess with. I just had to smile at that one because that AB brother reminds me of somebody that I know and I would not want to see him go back to prison. He does not need that but he is also in top physical condition. Nobody wants to fight with him because he is so dangerous. Hopefully he will focus on his family, working, and staying out of trouble with the law. :D

Yep. Also, they said that his food will be nutritious but bland. He will get enough to stay healthy, but it won't be enjoyable.

Oh, boo hoo. :D

Here is the transcript of what happened in the courtroom and what the former Mayor of NYC Guiliani and the families of the victims as well as Moussaoui's lawyer had to say.... This is way too long to post. Here is the article.
