You Sir Are A Bigot

not religion at all since other Mormon churches do not agree with his view. It's his view alone on homosexuality. any thought on that?

I have my views on homosexuality, yet I don't project them here...

That is because I'm feeble nobody. Why should he be any more important? Just because he tells his opinion?

He is not alone. Mormons vary. Some of them are liberal, conservative, apathy, and independents.

I have connections with Mormons.

And one thing, my half-brothers are descendants of a cousin of Joseph Smith.

Any views I have on the subject would involve a discussion of religion as well. Guess I will have to sit this one out. *shrug*

BTW.....The author in your OP doesn't seem to agree with you

We cannot stay silent. By speaking out together, we can show the Mormon Church hierarchy that it has literally risked the lives of children by inciting their tormentors. And we can ensure that the young people who heard this sermon know that it is scientifically wrong and profoundly misguided.

Speaking before 20,000 people and broadcasting to millions more, Packer said same-sex unions are morally wrong and "against God's law and nature" – and that the church hierarchy would continue to support marriage bans like Proposition 8 (which was funded largely by Mormons).

LDS members believe in tolerance, equal rights and choices. Most Liberal and Libertarian LDS members have a political belief that homosexuals should have a right to have civil unions or/and gay marriages. Liberal LDS members don't really care if homosexuals got married or not, because they believe that everyone has the will to make a choice to be a gay or not and don't interfere them from getting married together nor practicing their homosexuality. They also don't promote violence against homosexuality. It has been the "love the sin, but hate the sin" that has been promoted.

Most LDS members believe that the governments should stay out of the marriage business.

So, your school is for this.....

and against this....

Yet, employees of said school circulated an email asking people to sign a petition against the Mormon church and their exercise of constitutionally backed freedoms of speech and religion. That doesn't sound very open to diversity. In fact, it sounds like......discrimination :)
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, smells like a duck... Then it's a duck

Sounds similar to the KKK when they advocate lynchings and start burning crosses to intimidate other races. They consider themselves a religious group in a lot of ways. Should they be free to practice their brand of free speech? Never mind, they are already doing so. Is this a good thing?

Anyhow, I am glad I do not follow the Mormon philosophy. No card playing, no homosexuality, but have all the wives you can get hitched to. :eek3:

His words did NOT advocate hate or harm at all. It is offensive to imply that.

Not true. If one of the 12 apostles says it from the pulpit at General Conference (which President Packer is and did) that makes it offical LDS doctrine. All members of the church sustain him as a prophet, seer and revelator and raise our hands affirming that we will follow his council. If he said it, it is as scripture.

Are you LDS?

I assume you are. LDS members usually say "President" Packer or "Elder" Packer. That is all right if you don't have to answer it.

I am. I converted at 11 and my husband is a child of the covenant, as is my daughter. I may not be the best mormon, but I do have a full testimony of the truth :D

after reading this thread even further, I see TXgolfer beat me to it ....

I'm sure you do have a testimony. I did not watch General Conference on Sat and Sun, but I will wait for Ensign to come in next month. I enjoyed Pres. Eyring's talks, yet he is a physicist.
