The car-sim console war between PS2 and xbox has been upped!

With the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 4 this fall-we thought it was the Gran Turismo to end all Gran Turismo's but seems like I was wrong...

Microsoft Game Studios has answered the Gran Turismo type challenge:

Forza Motorsport!

http://www.xbox.com/en-us/forza/default.htm

Even better: Forza Motorsport will have 60 manufacturers including FERRARI! Gran Turismo never had a Ferrari in all its games. Then the ultimate kicker that will truly doom Gran Turismo:

The abiility to customize the car including changes to the body and engine looks so much better than Need For Speed Underground and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. With many Gran Turismo fans, myself included clamoring for Yamauchi to include DAMAGE to the cars, both visually and mechanically, Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital has used the "license restrictions" excuse every time there was no Damage implemented in each Gran Turismo game. Forza Motorsport will have damage for all cars, even the Ferrari's are not immune to it! So, Yamauchi, you're about to get dusted!

But the best thing for me about Forza Motorsport is: The Nurburgring Nordschleife track in Germany that I have loved in Project Gotham Racing 2, along with Mazda Laguna-Seca Raceway is making their appearance in FM. All I just hope is MGS can sneak in the Mount Panorama Bathurst track from Australia in Forza (after all Bathurst is my fave Pro Race Driver and TOCA RD2 track)

Enough blathering....compare the Gran Turismo 4 and Forza Motorsports snaps:

UPDATE:

Gran Turismo 4 is coming to the US this March with Forza Motorsports nipping on its heels this April 1st. Since both games are exclusive to each console- GT4 for the PS2 and Forza Motorsports for the xbox.

I've played a demo of Forza Motorsports and man, it rocked! Forza has the only thing that is missing from the Gran Turismo series: the ability to turn your car into a pile of junk after a race! (and that's damage, mind ya lol) The physics of driving each car in Forza is more real than when I played Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. If I have to pick between Forza or GT4 first, I'll take Forza over GT4 ;)

Sad is that Gran Turismo 4 will not have online mode but Forza will have xbox live online racing. On the upgrades scene, Forza totally :Owned: GT4 with the ability to even add the "Fast and Furious" parts to your ride. plus custom paint jobs like Need for Speed Underground.....

I've estimated the total of cars available for both GT4 and Forza.....GT4 will have a total of over 600 cars while Forza has 250 cars to play with, all real licensed cars from manufacturers like Chevy, Ford, Porsche, Ferrari and Nissan. There are some cars that will be unique to each game like GT4's 1915 Ford Model T, Jay Leno's car that is powered by a engine off a TANK, and the 1886 Mercedes 3-wheeler wagon! Forza includes cars from Ferrari and Porsche that has never made their appearance in all Gran Turismo games.

Surprised to see a real 1915 Model T Ford in a VIDEO GAME?!

and that's for GT4.... Imagine driving that puppy around the 14 mile Nurburgring Nordschleife track that takes about 7 to 8 minutes a lap to complete....I'm willing to bet it takes the Model T Ford about an hour to do just one lap of that track! (That track will be in both GT4 and Forza Motorsports)

I'm really looking forward to these 2 games this year once I get my replacement consoles......

WHOA ! that looks so real !

yeah looks so real you could have sworn you were right smack on the track...lol!

I've figured out the cars that were on the GT4 pic in the 1st post starting with the gray car out front and working way back to the 6th car before the Dunlop tire arch. The cars are: 1) Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 8 (Gray), 2) Subaru Impreza WRX STi (blue), 3) Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec Nur (black), 4) Acura NSX (white), 5) Mazda RX8 (yellow), and 6) Toyota Supra Turbo (silver)

Gran Turismo 4 is out now.....AUGH! I got no PS2 on me right now but I took a chance on a full version of GT4 at EBGames this afternoon.......

I decided, just for kicks, to take a 1987 Buick GNX (a Regal 2 door with the turbo V6) like this car in the pic:

thru the 14 mile Nurburgring racetrack that is out there in Germany in real life. The GT4 version of the Nurburgring was that damn narrower than the one I played on Project Gotham Racing 2. Even worse is the start/finish line for GT4 was different from PGR2?! Lap time on the GT4 version totally sucked for me since the Buick drove like a damn boat compared to a Corvette!

Also, I raced one of the salesmen at the EBGames on the Full Seattle track that carries over from GT2 and GT3. Salesman had a Honda S2000 convertible and I used the same Buick GNX.....Result was I can smoke him in a drag race to the 1st corner, but the salesman totally had me :Owned: cuz the Buick had really shitty brakes LOL!

Hats off to Kazunori Yamauchi for making GT4 really nice with the in-game physics and graphix. But however I'm really looking forward to Forza Motorsport coming out on May 3 (Incidentally the same Buick GNX also makes its appearance in Forza Motorsports besides Gran Turismo 4!)

Wait until Forza comes out May 3. GT4 is gonna get :Owned: by Forza Motorsport. Ive played the demo of FM and the full boat GT4. Forza kicks GT4 ass all over the car sim console category.

UPDATE:

I FINALLY got my hands on a copy of Forza Motorsports and after a few hours playing, all I can say is:

Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo got :Owned: by Dan Greenawalt, MGS and Forza!

I loved the way I can customize the cars in Forza especially with the Ferrari's. I carried over a rule that I used for upgrading parts in the cars from GT3 A-Spec, namely: every time I lose a race, I upgrade the car one part at a time, but with a special twist for Forza: I add a different color decal to any of the body parts to represent a replacement door, hood, etc as I like to have my cars look like redneck beaters lol! I've seen Forza players take customizing their cars to the extreme at Forzacentral.com... One car was made to look like the "Hello Kitty" cartoon character from Japan using the tools that were available with Forza's customize car screen. Look over there... http://www.forzacentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2239
Try this with GT4!

The bots in the game are so awesome since they behave differently every time I run a race. Even the bots will make mistakes on their own. Another nice bonus with Forza is a "virtual pet" feature that allows you to train your own bot to take your place in some races like very long races that were the hallamark of the GT series. However it will cost ya a lot of credits if you want the bot to run a race for you. Also I dont need to worry about GT's infamous license tests bullshit. (I never forget GT3 A-Spec's last S-license test that involved a lap of Cote d'Azur in a Toyota GT-ONE race car that was so full of frustration, taking over 100 tries just to acheive a damn bronze so I can finally grab the badly-needed S-license!)

The physics in the full game were really better IMO. One small upgrade, and one of the cars I had in my garage was so damn insane to control as it was all over the track! Right now I'm at level 11 (There are 50 levels to make through FM's career mode) and I got 12 cars in my garage already as most of 'em were free cars I got as prizes for winning races and unlocking levels, and only one car I bought to start my FM career off (a PT Cruiser Turbo in the North American Region) Even I can damage the cars if I hit a wall (and I gotta pay for 'em with my winnings too!) unlike GT4's cars bouncing off the wall without a scratch on 'em.

So, Yamauchi.....time to go back to the drawing board for GT5 as Forza got ya owned so bad!

Holy shit, it looks so real! GT4 is also 720p HDTV compatible so it will show it at high resolution. PS2 can do that :D

it sounds very excited. thanks for info. i think i will get Forza sometimes this month or this June.
