would you buy a $50 light bulb?

They won't be that expensive for long. People need to see it in a different light. These light bulbs are designed to last much, much longer than incandescent light bulbs and they will cost you far, far less in the long run.

Basically, it should be perceived as an investment to save money.
No, it won't be that expensive. I put that title in the thread title to grab attention.

We really need to design fixtures around LED technology. As the article said, the bulb shape is not the best for LED technology, but that is the way the fixtures are nowadays. Starting over from scratch is a big transition.

I would really piss off if I drop the light bulb trying to put it in!! If the bulb was made not to break and had a warranty for a 100 years I might buy it.

A friend was telling me her heard on the news incandescent bulbs where not going to be banned after as the new light bulbs have mercury in them and it cost money to get rid of them and if you break it you have to leave the house.
I use the new bulbs now and pay $15 for a bulb!! I hope it is going the earth some good as it sure cost a lot to replace them.

No, incandescent bulbs will be phase out in between 2012 to 2014.

That's not true, I did broke the CFL before so I clean it up so no problem, just make sure that you open the window and never get closer to broken lamps.

Yeah I accidently broke the long floourscent tube. It made a really loud bang when it fell to the ground. I had to open the door and clean it up and throw the remains to the trash. I had no choice where to dispose it properly because I was a janitor back in Seattle. It was late at night as well.

If you go to a landfill, you will notice how many of the new bulbs were simply tossed out instead of being carefully recycled. It is a dirty, shameful secret. :(

I am going to try and recycle my bulbs when they burn out. I called the health department in my city and I think I can bring my old bulbs there. Some people are stocking up on incandescent light bulbs . How will the government keep people from using incandescent light bulbs once they're ban? I hope there will not cops going to people homes to bust their incandescent light bulbs!

You can continue to use incandescent bulbs as long as you want. They will just not be available at your local stores starting with the 100w bulbs in January 2012.

What if the dog's tail knocks over a lamp and breaks the bulb?! What if you drop the package full of bulbs when you unload the bag from the car trunk? Big bucks, down the drain.

Out of curosity, how many hours or long can that $50 light bulb stay durable?
