So i work in a pizzeria on the weekend. I missed half of an order last night. I heard a chicken bacon ranch hoagie with bbq sauce. I bring him the order and he tells me he is missing the other sandwich. I recheck the ticket and find only the 1 sandwich. After i speak with him it turns out he ordered another hoagie. The rest of the night i received looks and giggles " like how did you miss half the order?" There was minor background noise and i had the counter between us but i don't see how i missed the other half of the order(rather i don't want to believe it). He never turns away or anything besides that my h.L. Is mild- moderate (low frequency ) I've miss understood things but i never have missed whole parts of conversations. I've already been feeling my hearing loss has been getting worse for some time, but of course i've been hoping I'm wrong.

Don't blame yourself, things happen sometimes. Even before my hearing started Receding I would miss major parts of conversations. Even Hearing people do it sometimes, Maybe your mind was slightly focused on something else. Do speak with your specialist about it though to be sure your hearing isn't getting worse.

Sounds like the customer may have been a jerk and didn't actually order a 2nd sandwich. Maybe hoping to score a discount off you by putting up a fuss once the sandwich arrived? You might not have mis-heard anything.

I was thinking the same thing

It sounds like the customer is trying to take advantage by tricking you that you missed the other sandwich. When I place an order of something, the employee double checks my order with me before I pay which helps understanding each other. I agree with AC... I've had my share of sneaky customers at work trying to lie about the content(s) they ship internationally.

I would suggest double check the order with customer which would help clear the misunderstanding before the customer pay his/her order. :)

Especially talking with my son on the telephone, I repeat whatever I think he said, which often gets giggles. I also have to frequently remind him to speak directly and loudly into the receiver. He has high-functioning autism, so there are communication problems on his part. Hopefully soon we will have other ways to communicate.

Repeating back the order should be standard for anyone.

He was very polite about it and just paid for the other sandwich and waited for it and still tipped.

Doubting ourselves only makes us misunderstand more. Fear clouds the brain. Do your best and be proud, because most of the time you get it right!
