Wisconsin GOP bypasses Dems, cuts collective bargaining

Ugh, it's not good for anyone. :/

Yup, it isn't good. :(

I don't know about upcoming election and recall progress in WI so I cannot make predict right now but I'm sure that will be very upset election.

I know. Not only will Democrats in WI be lambasted for "trying to shut down government" or whatever, but people in unions are going to suffer...and if they can get away with it in Wisconsin, you KNOW anti-union efforts will continue elsewhere. That's why people like me (a teacher) are so concerned. I wouldn't teach if I lost my collective bargaining rights. Not for the public sector, nope.

Yup, I'm pro-unions and support collective bargaining for public sectors, including teachers, police officers, firefighters, prison guards, etc in state that is traditionally strong union state like Wisconsin and Ohio but in southern states, all but KY have right to work law and few does have collective bargaining in public sector (probably FL is one of them) but rest of them are not because traditionally anti-union, however in 60 years ago, some companies in Alabama operate closed shop or union shop for people who is pro-union supporter until became illegal under right to work in 1950's.

I'm seriously disturbed by GOP attack on unions and they found other way to pass anti-union bill without democrats present in, known as nuclear option. I hope this action will be serious consequence for Governor Walker and GOP in next year, especially governor recall and election.

Part of the article says, "The measure forbids most government workers from collectively bargaining for wage increases beyond the rate of inflation unless approved by referendum. It also requires public workers to pay more toward their pensions and doubles their health insurance contribution, a combination equivalent to an 8 percent pay cut for the average worker.
Police and firefighters are exempt."

Hmmm, interesting.

It is hard enough WITH the union. I'd feel very unsafe without. And did you see the part about benefits? :/

Unsafe?

I guess teachers would have to face the vagaries of the working world like everyone else.
