The latest report indicates that Rita (once a tropical storm) is now upgraded to a major category 3 hurricane. It’s headed toward the Gulf region just like Katrina did. They say it may it Texas, but Louisiana or even northern Mexico may also get hit.

I wonder whether global warming has something to do with the increased frequency and intensity of recent storms.

she might be like Katrina. if she takes her time going through the warm gulf water she'll gain strength. warm water is great for hurricanes, it makes the stronger.

also needs depth of water to gain strengh, shallow warm water doesn't work well with hurricanes, that's why they weaken when they landfall.

Yeah....already it's a Catagory 2 hurricane.....last night it was just a hair below offical hurricane status.

i hope they're leaving the city by now! i believe there's no need to rebuild New orleans.. President bush made a stupid desicion.. "LETS REBUILD NEW ORLEANS" this is the only thing i disagee with bush on!

Texas? I hope not! Thats my state.

Make sure you're prepared for this, Weirdo.. If you're closeby, leave. Don't wait til the last minute. Stay safe, okay?

Rita is the 17th.. that is sooo out of ordinary! Freaky too... hate for this to happen.. what if the letter hits to a Z.. what will happen after that? Go back to A?

Yeah, I heard about the news. Make me so nervous and more worrying about Rita's coming to Texas or not. Most of my family live in Houston area.

I think Rita is getting more stronger like Katrina was. :ugh:

Its a category 4 now.. keep an eye on that. Its going towards Houston if it doesn't change directions.

Category 4 hit New Orleans.. so look at all the debris and damages it has done. So be prepared as well, make sure your family leaves Houston just to be on the safe side. My cousin and his family lived in New Orleans.. they managed to escape a few days before it hit.

er.. oh no.. its gonna gain strength.. oh boy.. time to fill er gas up buddies.

oil crude business fears that they'll damage more oil refinarys.. and predict the gas price will increase dramictially back again.

i feel sad for those NO people.. they're ordered to leave NO again... they just got there from a long trip.. now they have to take a long trip away from NO.. wow.. what a waste of gas, time, and money.

and for those who in huston, TX as a possible hit site.. people there are from NO where they're sheltered.. are ordered to leave the city. pretty scary moments for those NO people.

scary situation... :Ohno:

Then do is PREPARATION for your safety.... before Rita comes.

Now it's a catergory 4 with 140 mph winds, we'll see if it gains more strengh or stay the same. People better prepare now and leave the coastal Texas and parts of Louisana. Hurricane Katrina had top speed of 175 mph winds at rare catergory 5 storm.

I think it will be another Katrina as far as storm strength is concerned. However, we won't see the loss of life we saw with Katrina simply because, Texas has their act together as far as storm preparation is concerned.

I got hit by Rita also. It came in as a cat 1 storm, strengthened to cat 2 (100mph) before it exited the Keys. I went over to my sister's and weathered the storm at her house, and we didn't see any water at all. My parents took water in the yard from surge, but nothing got in the house. Also, interesting to note: My folks never lost power with this storm. We did lose power over at my sister's place. However, I'm back home now, and very glad to be here!

Lets hope that Rita doesn't become the monster that everyone she is predicted to be!

All those potentially affected by Rita, stay safe!

Oh, ayi ayi ayi. Im gonna call my mom and see what's up. Cuz we live on the east side which is closer to Galveston. Im gonna pray harder! Y'all pray, too? Please?
