Wow!

Do you know what s happened?

It may be humid out but no static electricity because guys in video are not wearing coat ect.. The cause of it was that he opened up the top lid of tanker that emit LOTS of fumes which is enough to be ignited by cell phone's electric field.

I've use cell phone while pumping gas. I don't stand close by the gas nozzle inlet of my truck.

Catty

Learned something new. Sometimes I use iphone while fueling the gas.

The real reason why cell phones are banned is due to the electrical interference. Many gas pumps are now designed to be resistant to this effect though. What used to happen was that the cell phone would cause the gas pump to incorrectly display the price.

There is no record of any cell phones being responsible for a fire at a gas station. At least not any that I know of.

Maybe we should send an email to Mythbusters for this one.

A cell phone does not and cannot emit a electrical discharge to ignite the gaseous fumes of gasoline. The problem is that its the driver that builds up an electrical (static) charge. This happens only after the nozzle is put into the gas tank. The driver already touched nozzle's first before inserting into the tank. The person then goes back into the car while its being pumped and sits on the car seat, rubbing it and build up static charge. Then the driver gets out without touching the outside of his car or other metal objects outside that are grounded which can help dissipate the built up electrical (static) charge. If the driver's static charge hasn't dissipated by the time he touched the nozzle, then his touching will be the source of ignition....not the cell phone. The cell phone thing is a big myth.

the handle for gas nozzle = it's made of rubber or plastic

I have heard of static electricity causing that...for example, if I started pumping, then went inside my car to get something but I don't touch metal before I touch the pump again, it's possible for that to happen...which is why they always say touch the car (metal part) before touching the pump.

See how to test static electricity on cellphone near something with gas.

They already did it....It was a great show. They blew up a travel trailer.
What was the conclusion? I am thinking Plausible under the just right circumstances, however not likely in real-world situations.

As for the travel trailer, was it a 90ft slider?

a small travel trailer.....The phone was busted but static blew it to smithereens. The ran a line to the trailer which was filed with gas cans. Built up static....touched the line BOOM!

wow oh my god banned cellphone whoa that is serious issues!
