I heard that around 16 homes were damaged. The insurance should be able to cover the costs for the damages.

It's not that BIG of a disaster. A big disaster is when many people are dying, or dead. No, the shelters doesn't count. They are materials, not humans. However, I did see the clip and it looked pretty bad.

But nothing compared to what I've seen in Asia. What happened in Asia was unbelievable. Not even with your eyes.

Because

Californians need to move the hell out of that state!!!!

Only reason they are there, because so they can smooch
off of Hollywood stars.

They act as if California is the only place to live.
And USA got lot of lands. But they don't care about earthquakes,
forest fire, and all.

Same things with Florida, Floridians know that they
get hurricanes almost every year.

Then they expect everybody to sympathize them. :pissed:

Many countries will have disasters of various proportions...most of these natural disasters are well within the emergency fundings in the country it has happened...(such as insurances, government emergency fundings, etc.)

Yet, a disaster such as the one in Asia is significant and the loss of life and property, etc., is huge...beyond the capabilities of these countries that were profoundly and greatly impacted by this deadly disaster and it's more of a humanely gesture and good will of other countries to reach out and help however each country is able to support the cause of helping the survivors....

Also, if we adopt a "leave-them-alone" attitude, things can get much worse, and many more people can die. It's not just the 155.000 plus people who died, but the long term consequences that these countries are unable to control without assistance from abroad. Some countries may not have enough medicine, or have enough funds to establish orphanages for the children whose parents were killed by the tsunami, and the list goes on. If we don't send medicine, more people will get sick, and die. If we do not send resources to help rebuild sewages and fresh water, more people will get sick and die. If we do not send help for the orphanages, children might be left on the street to survive and some may die. If we do not send resources to rebuild their cities, their tourism and economy will decline and it may have a long term impact on economy worldwide. And also, we have so many international tourists in these tsunami ravaged regions. We need to send money also to find our people, bring them home and bury them. You can't expect Thailand to pick up all the cost for locating foreign tourists, identify them (a process which could take up to a year) and sending them back to their homelands.

What happened in California is NOTHING compared to what happened in Asia.

I heard that it would take about 100 years for those wiped out countries to get back to the way they were before the tsunami struck.

Ummm, TTT, what were you smoking tonight, eh? Jeezz, take some Nyquil and in the morning re-read what you said and if you still think what you said is okay, then have a good life.

Yeah, Vamps; I even heard that some places there so inundated that the lay of the land has changed significantly enough for cartographers to re-do maps of those areas so affected......

Why do these people have to live close to the ocean? They could have lived up the mountains and the tsunami would never got to them. I say this,, You help america first then were help you. Just like we helped the russians who were hungry after the colapse of the soviet union. Suppose we were hungry ans starving?? You think the soviets would help us?? NO WAY!!! so why should we help them?

How do you expect several countries with high poverty to help the USA out.

The real truth is that the USA really don't need their help. Really. The Americans are capable of it themselves, don't you remember 9/11? The gigantic amount of help that was poured out of Americans alone!

Americans really helped each other out, while some Canadians came down to comfort the New Yorkers. Honestly, what help could you need from the other countries on 9/11?

?

Think about it. All you needed was their support and sympathies which you did get. Not the money because the Americans took care of that themselves including a large portion of Canadians also donated their money, and offered the stranded Americans free nights at their houses due to being unable to land in the USA.

Honestly, I don't see what you're getting at.

Raven, the way you think, if I was to apply this towards the California situation:

Why did they have to live in where they live in California, to be washed away and live in a mudslide prone region? They could have lived in a safer place and the water and mudslides would not have gotten them.

Take this as an example:

If you are the only house in the entire neighbourhood who had a plethora of food supply, whilst your neighbours were all broke and hungry. The only place to get food is your house. Since you won't share with them, what will they do?

1) they might starve and die
2) they might invade into your house, hurt you and steal the food

If you share your food with the neighbours, then it will prevent any bad situations or hard feelings from burning up and reaching a point where things can go in bad favour towards you.

Thats why you buy a gun! So if they try to invade your house steal your food you shoot the bastard and you dont have worry about anyone stealing your food.

Huh ..my family has lived in Southern California for decades and never smooched off on stars. You need to get your head out of fanatasy. California is much more than Hollywood. I dont get it - it is like people think all Californians live in Hollywood or Beverly Hills, hanging out with stars, etc. If you look the map of California, you will see how huge the state is like Texas.

There is natural disasters EVERYWHERE but these places dont get much media attention. What happened in California is rare. The rains came a decade ago and came again. It is not a frequent thing. They DO care about earthquakes, forest fires, etc. Some of disasters are man made such as throwing away a cigarette or ashes into dry winds and it sparks fires.

Please take a moment to use your brain right now.

Asia has over 150,000 deaths and thousands of miles of destruction.

The mudslide in La Conchita only took homes away and had a VERY small number of deaths/injuries. Insurance will cover that.

Most people in Asia does not have insurance ..they lost jobs as most were wiped away too not just people.

You cannot compare two events. The one in Asia is of biblical proportion while the one in CA is tiny event. Hence we dont need money from other countries.

yes, that is very true. Asian do not have their houses, jobs, clothes, food, etc... It is extremely sad to seeing 150,000 people died !! Comparsion to WTC (1,400 people died).

Imagine, you see fans at the football Stadium. How many people fans are out there ?? Big wave water (400 feet high) wiped them away...

Ravensteve does not realize this. *sigh*

LOL! That is so you, going across the street and save a hot chick.

I get the feeling that Ravensteve doesnt realise that Asia is a poor country, they are in debt to many other countries Britian included.

This is why people are donating lots of money to Asia becuase it will cost a LOT of money to be able to repair the damage. Our prime minster (Tony Blair) has said that he will delay the repayment of the money Asia owes Britain for one year to help them recover what they have lost
