Hi , I am curious which transportation choice do you like the best?

Own Car

Greyhound Bus

Amtrak

Fly Airlines

Personally...for me, if the trip is short then bus and if I have to hurry then the airlines but if there is plenty of time long distance travel then the Amtrak train.

An aviation fanatic like me obviously picks the airplane. You see, my homies Orville and Wilbur Wright invented the best thing known to mankind: the plane.

Nevermind that they passed away and I never met them. They're still my homies. ;)

That is a good one. Endymion. Yeah If there was time... I would really enjoy the Amtrak. I don't mind traveling on airlines. Love to fly, man. Driving my own car may take too much time money gas and enegry. Greyhound bus is okay if you don't mind the dangerous crowd.

It depends on the destination, how much time is available, and the cost.

The one mode that I do NOT enjoy is long-distance bus rides. I have been on several (including West to East coast, 3 1/2 days/nights straight, with my younger brother when I was 16), and they are NOT comfortable. Also, you can get stuck sitting next to an unpleasant person for a loooong time. Ugh!

It's been a long time since I've been on a train or plane. Plane trips just cost too much. If I ever get to travel overseas again, I would fly. I would like to take my grandsons on a train ride someday. They have never experienced that.

Amtrak trains have a very good family atomsphere. I would recommend that to you, Reba... Just be aware that on Amtrak the food costs alittle bit because of supply and demand but if you go first class with a bedroom and a shower cabin then the morning breakfast, lunch and dinner is already included in the train ticket. They also have wine with lunch and dinner. You will have more privacy with your family in the first class cabin than if you rode coach class cabin.

They have a family lounge where there is a very big window where the grandchildren with their family can look at what is outside. When you cross the train cabin into another train cabin in the enclosure, it would be a good idea to pick up your grandchildren because sometimes the little kid's feet can get caught on an object in the train enclosure.

You can take pictures of things outside the window and a family picture of you all sitting in the train on Amtrak.

Since 9/11/01 you are not allowed to photograph the outside of the train .... maybe just your family beside the Amtrak logo but not the whole train itself for security reasons and that is strictly enforced now. I saw one family wanted to take a picture with the whole train car in the picture where their family was standing then security ran over to them with a worried conductor aide then they pointed to the Amtrak logo on the train then the family took the picture much more closer and not so far away from the Amtrak logo, you know what I am talking about?

Also, make sure your grandchildren does not talk to strangers and be with your grandchildren at all times. If strangers want to talk to you, make sure they talk to you and not your grandchildren for safety reasons. Just be aware of the situation and it is much better to talk to with people who have their family with them than a single person with no family. I don't mean it in a bad way but it is just safety and commonsense.

There are Amtrak attendants and Amtrak staff that are guys on every cabin car if you need any emergency help or medical attention or just have questions.

That will save you alots of trouble and your whole family will be able to enjoy riding on Amtrak.

I hope these tips will help you have a better and more safer trip with your grandchildren on Amtrak. God Bless... :) :thumb:

Since there isn't multiple choices, I have my own car for traveling, sometimes fly if it's very far away or don't have the time to travel by car. I also would take amtrak, but I would rather take the car because it's faster than the train. If there was high speed train in the West US, I would take the train instead if the price is reasonable. :) I don't like riding buses on long distance trips, short trips I don't mind.

This is my first time to use a poll.... I will have to remember to use the multiple choice. I was not sure what that one was for.

I prefer to fly.
I've never traveled on a train long distance.
Bus....been there...done that...not again, thanks.

I like traveling on car and bus because of seeing scenery.

I went by Colorado in a car, wow, so pretty. Also drove to Key West, so breezy.

And I went by Biloxi on bus, very beautiful, a mansion sit next to the gulf.

Plane is okay, sometimes I kinda scare.

Train is fun.

I prefer to travel by plane if the distance is really far. If the distance is not too far then I'd travel by a car.

I wanna put more than 1 vote but oh well...

It is depend on what you plan for the trip

I like Amtrak, drive by my Jeep, or fly...hate BUS. NO thanks! Amtrak is a lot of fun! I did that from here to Los Angeles when I was pregant with my son.

I vote None...
Because my neighbor invented
a brand new Flying car (2 passengers only)
This will go into production mid-2006
worth $100K each
Therefore, I want a Flying car...
just to avoid heavy traffic etc

Flying car??? ... interesting

I voted own car.. I prefer to drive than any other transportation.. If I really have to.. I'll fly but hate to fly :Ohno:

I vote none...

I prefer bus, trains and bicycle to cars due gasoline expense.

I have to use car to travel to work everyday because of bad bus connection...

We use trains and bus mostly during trips than car... We use car sometimes...

Er...you are in Germany...right? Your response to these choices would be different than most of us over here in USA (unless you live in NYC). Mass transportation over in Europe is a different kettle of fish where your options are generally much, much better. I have heard your gas is in the $5+ range and that would dampened frivolous car travelling.

Back to the thread...It depends on the distance involved. I don't mind the bus but I agree with Reba you can get "interesting" characters next to you. I love the train but it is usually not convenient and the plane is simply a hassle plus the cost. So, I usually stick with the car.

I am lucky to own a car myself - and its cheaper to take my family outings than on bus/train for each person - no thanks!

My children catching a normal bus* to school because I start work at 7, they start at 8.45am. (not yellow school bus I see on TV).

I love flying because its safer than cars!!
