What would you do if your doctor gives you a couple options...

1-- remove one of your vertbrate

2 -- put a rod in your back for rest of your life

Is it a tough decision to make? Even there is a side effect-- that you can be parayzled.
 
What does putting a rod in your back do? Will you still be able to bend over or anything?

If you have a piece of your vertebrate removed, that could make you a inch shorter.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Perhaps, getting a rod in your back might be the best option... :dunno:

like I said in other topic I missed alot.. sorry.. hope you get heal either way with rod or remove one of the vert... do your pro-cons..

Generally, it's known to be such a risk when taking out a vertebra or joint out of the spine aka vertebrate...I do not want to scare you to making a certain choice but something like this, one would want to do a lot of research and check out the possibilities such as visiting other doctors or specialists for further opinions and even perhaps come across some new technology that is available now which may lessen the risks involved. As for the rod...you stated putting a rod inside your back...when there are other methods of placing the rod on the outside of your vertebrate...exactly which way did your doctor give you? Something like this, the choices you've been given...you may feel some comfort to do much researching and checking out all the options you or whomever it is that needs medical attention for the vertebra.... ;)
 
I would go with the rod. I would get more medical opinions, though, eternity, anyone should get many, many thoughts on something like this before making a decision.
 
suggest, best opition to see atternative doctor's 2nd opition compare orginal doctor.

And also to see if the possible not side effect you parayzled. Hopefully would be great news..

Well since i aint a doctor, i really dont have the answer for you, eternity..its best to discuss this with your doctor in pro and cons..really.
 
If only one or two vertabrae are affected, then it seems to me a rod would limit your mobility such as X % of the ability to bend over.....whereas the fusion of two vertabrae would be less limiting.......hey, don't take any of our suggestions as gospel...consult professionals for a 2md, even a 3rd opinion because anything related to the back, especially the lower back is quite hairy even in this day and age! Best to you.........

I do not know what's limit once i get a rod in my back. Maybe cant bend over all the way not like before? I still can B E N D.

To lose one vertbrate that would make me uncomfortable because it would be ODD number. I like even number -- there are 12 vertbrates and lose one .. which is 11 ?

To have a ROD in back.. there is a side effect.. which I can be parayzled. It is a risk.

I second that.

My husband has similar problem as you. Well the doctor recommend him to not operate. Did you know it´s very risk to operate it because of nerves?

Yes, Looks so seriouis.. I suggest, you better discuss w/your 1st doctor and 2nd doctor's optiions.

And to see if possible another way solution to have improve your back better way.

Oh dear, it´s very risk to have an operation. :ugh:

Better to have a good talk with Specialist what they can do with those condition.

What about massage? It does help my hubby sometimes.

With or Without operation, you still have pain like this rest of your life.

If the driver is the responsibly to cause those car accident then go to lawyer. Like what Bullym0m susgest.
 
It depends on how many fusions there are.....obviously the more fusions, the less you can bend............with the fusion of just 2 discs, one has nearly complete range of motion & it goes down-hill from there..........
 
Liebling -- I still attend for physical therphy. You are right the pain will always be there forever. Today is over 5 mos and still hurts. Im taking some of Vicodin and Ibuprofen. Even I go to work. It kills my back. My doctor wants me to reduce the hours but I told him I had to work to make the money! I had to!

I do have a lot of tolerance with pain sometime I want to cry but I just want to hush and keep working.

About sue the driver who caused this? I don't know :)

eh.. I finally open up about this issue after 5 months.

Bullymom -- Last April 22, June 29, Aug 23, and sept 2 -- Doctors said my back has not improved or changed anything. There are some reasons why neurosurgery doctors gave me the options but he would let me have some time to consider about this. Im thinkin about the JOB that I have to make for living and I dont live off on SSI.

The problem is..if i get my back surgery and I would have to wear a brace for 6 months.. I wonder if Im going to work? How can I expense on my home, car, and all?

It is not easy to make the decision.
 
I admire your strength, but if you keep killing yourself you'll never be able to recover. So... what's more important now? You or the job? I'll say it's time to take care of YOU. Have you talked with your boss about your situation? Ask the boss if you can have your job back when you're fully recovered or at least work part-time for awhile, but no lifting related.
 
Bullymom, Yea you can see that picture. My back seems not look so good. So my vertbrate is fractured -- crushed and thoronic 5,6,7 are compressed.

My neurosurgery doctor said after my back surgery and he will remove some bone pieces somethin like that. I ll get more information from my other doctors.

Also I will need to go see chircopractic (sp?).. If they are going to help with my back but I dont know yet.

There are so much things to do do.

Extactly my second thoughts about.. Chircopratic (sp) would be great helpful Dr's opnion for you...

Have you talk your parent issues about this ? Have any ideas about best interest for your back issues and also how can you support living decent which you have currency job.. cannot afford quit your job and goes for SSI.. not worth..
Which one do you prefer sarficate for your life goes for surgery or stubborn stay firm ?

My heart goes out for that... I can image that if I were you.. Yes I would *scream*
I wonder, Does your parent willing support you anything general likely support living or else ?
