I just moved into a place that is part gas and part electric. My heat is gas and my stove is gas. My fireplice is wood :D. I have never cooked on gas before and find my self burning my food all the time. But it does make water boil faster

I use electric! I hate it due to my light bill sky rockets during the cold spells. Cost of comfort I guess.

I just voted Electric (because I do have base boards around in my town house) but I do have a gas stove. Yes, I agree with you some aders that it sure does make water boil faster.
What if the electricity goes off and I can use the gas stove to cook something but I haven't tried that. Does anyone have that experience? :dunno:

I rarely use heat, but when I do, I just walk outside, get some wood and throw it in the stove (its a wood stove for those who don't know). I also light up the fire place, but that's more rare than the wood stove.

I have heating oil in my tank which is outside of the house and a furnace down in the crawlspace (small basement about four feet) and my husband and I were not allowed to have fireplaces in the house. We have 3 portable electric heaters to give us more warmth if the oil is not giving us enough heat when the winter get freezing or if we ran out of oil. The heating oil is expensive (cost about four hundred to five hundred dollars to fill up almost half an tank, maybe less than half) and wish that it would be cheaper but it ain't that cheap at all. :( I have electric stove to cook. By the way, my husband has a woodstove in his shack out side of our home and he love it when he is not in the house. He is more comfortable in his favorite shack. I envy him but I would rather have a clean house than have a smoke dirt all over the furniture and dishes. :D

I use reverse cycle air conditioner heating in Australia for winter time.

As for New Zealand, I do miss the fire place or central floor heating.
