we should require tests for voters

How about having only Mensa members being allowed to vote?
So only 2.5% of the population will determine what is best for the other 97.5% of the population? Yeah I can see it now:

All children will be required to learn a second language by the age of 6, all children will be required to take pre-calculus in the 6th grade. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Why not require that the President have Doctoral degrees in Economics and Human Relations?

Holy cow, I hope that has been edited with the worst people left in! :aw:
Yeah... they probably did that.

That's how some people try to emphasize something... by exaggerating on their results.

I have no problem with that as long as he is elected by Mensa members.

It is never, never about being real, real smart---my point was that voters take time to "learn the issues" and the position of those running for office. If they don't do so then they don't get to vote. If they are too lazy to learn about the issues, then they are too lazy to go voting.

It is a relief to know that I knew the answers to several of them. hehehehe

Voters should not be tested; instead they should learn the issues and candidates.

If they choose not to do so, it is entirely their own fault when problems arise.

Bingo. People are getting what they asked for. Problem is, they really did not understand what they were asking for. Little understanding of action and reaction.

But here is another point:

How do you know what your'e voting for or against if all the campaign ads have the candidates cutting each other down and making cheap pot shots?

Look at the political ads you see in newspapers and TV, they are all negative. The ones that are even remotely positive just talk about how the candidate has had this experience doing this or has participated in these civic clubs and/or events. BUT there is NOTHING about where the candidate stands on issues and what the candidate will try to achieve if they are elected to office.

Positive ads are just as bad.... Think back on all the hope and change, rose colored glasses, end the discourse BS from '08. And now......

Who said political advertisements are the only source for information. There are many places to obtain information about candidates and their positions. Voter pamphlets published by local government agencies is one example.

Not only that, but people need to take the claims made during campaigns and actually check the feasibility through seeing whether it is even possible through economic theory, and sociological theory, and political theory. Don't stop with the candidates. Learn to analyze what the candidates say. And then question it.
