Ronald Reagan is my favorite President. Having said that, I don't agree with everything he did. Reagan made plenty of mistakes during his Presidency, but he always acknowledged them which is more than I can say for George W. Bush.

Yes. The difference lies in what they do to correct their mistakes.
So what should Obama do to correct the mistakes he made in his Cairo speech?

Not true.

He could have proudly defended America in his speech, told the Saudis to join the 21st century, and reiterated his support for Israel. But he didn't.

Obama can win if he starts doing the right things.

I do not see anything that Obama talked negative about America but he accept the fact that the previous president of the USA did wrong. He know what right and wrong.

I would do the same and accept the fact if I know what right and wrong, do you?

True, I only see Reagan and Obama are only president who admit their mistakes and apology. That´s why I like about them.

This thread is about his Cairo speech. He badmouthed America while in a foreign country. That is very unpresidential.

No, I see different as you.

You should blame Bush Admin. for create bad reputation for past 8 years. Obama is the one who repair the damage, Bush Admin. cause. He is doing to defend his America´s reputation and want to be peace with Middle Easters..

Obama visited Middle East personally to make speech but Bush? He reminds me of Presdent of Iranian who made Speech at Cambridge Unvitersity in the USA. I applause both of them.

The President of the United States should not say negative things about his own country and people when he makes speeches in foreign countries. That is very disloyal.

America is at war, our soldiers are being killed, and the President should speak praise of them, not criticism. Our enemies do plenty enough criticism of America and Americans. I expect my President to take the side of Americans, not foreigners.

Why does Obama feel compelled to publicly criticize the past administration? None of the other Presidents did that while in office. What purpose does it serve to constantly criticize the past leadership?

When did Reagan apologize for making a mistake while giving a speech overseas?

If other countries don't like us that's their problem, not our problem. We can't please everyone, and we shouldn't try. If you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one. It's more important to be right than it is to be popular. Popularity is for high school students, not national leaders.

You equate Obama with and applaud Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad?

It's worse than I thought.

How? Impossible to win because we all know what Bush Admin. did terrible and crime.
First, I don't agree with your assessment of the Bush administration.

Second, are you saying that it's impossible for Obama to do the right thing? Do you mean that just because you think Bush did things wrong that Obama can't be his own man and do the right thing?

How? Impossible to win because we all know what Bush Admin. did terrible and crime.

terrible? crime? then why isn't Bush being brought to trial by War Tribunal Court or investigated by Obama's Attorney General?

 But you posted:

"Yes. The difference lies in what they do to correct their mistakes."

Obama has been in office for a very short period of time. I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he continually makes mistakes that he doesn't own up to, then I will be more than happy to criticize him.

Hardly. That is the same type of self-centered, ethnocentric thinking that has put our country in such a dangerous position to begin with. Humility is a powerful diplomatic tool. We learn in kindergarten to admit and learn from our mistakes, why should it be any different here? Nothing Obama said in his speech was untrue.

America is at war, our soldiers are being killed, and the President should speak praise of them, not criticism. Our enemies do plenty enough criticism of America and Americans. I expect my President to take the side of Americans, not foreigners.

Did Obama directly criticize the troops? Did he say anything negative about them? Did you even watch/read the speech or are you just repeating what you've heard from the conservative pundits?. You're building a strawman here. Yes, it's really sad that 5,000 of our troops, who volunteered to fight with the knowledge that they could possibly be killed, have had to die. But is it not also sad that 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilians have died? You say this is a "war." Really? Tell me, who exactly are we fighting, and what are we fighting for? In a war, there is usually an objective to be attained, or something to defend. What is our objective here? What are we defending? What was it to begin with? Weapons of Mass destruction, right? Bringing democracy to the Mideast, Right? Making out country safer, right? On all counts: FAIL. This is not a war; it is an occupation, and it cannot be "won."

Because the actions of the past administration contribute greatly to the hostilities that the Muslim world feels toward our country. By criticizing Bush, he is distancing our country from the hostility created by bush and showing the Muslim world that America is ready to turn the page on foreign relations.

"Do I not destroying my enemies when I make them my friends?" - Abraham Lincoln.

In two hours, Obama has already made us safer as a nation than Bush did in 8 years in office.

Excellent post Alex!

Reagan is one of my favorite president in 80's and very mature republican president that I had seen.

nice rhetorical post but what about Bill Clinton and Somalia? Because of his reckless military decision, thousands of Somalis civilians died, entire relief effort was severely undermined, and UN peacekeepers were put at grave risk.

In two hours, Obama has already made us safer as a nation than Bush did in 8 years in office.

The nation was already safe because of Bush and Obama is using most of Bush's achievements :cool2:

I couldn't agree with you more. I also enjoyed listening to him speak. As you know, he was called "The Great Communicator" and rightfully so.
