Hi AllDeaf readers, On Friday, I started to have a red eye that really hurt and pain went through my right eye with a real bad headache. I could not sleep or anything and I had to wait until Monday to go to the eye doctor. When I got there, the doctor said I had full blown inflammation of the eye. What was a real eye opener was that I need to wash the bedsheets and the pillowcases much, much more often. I was asked if I washed my bedsheets and pillowcases that often and I thought what kind of question is that !!!!! but I answered anyways and I said once about every 3 months then he said that will do it. I said Wait ... but I get a hot bath everynight before I go to bed. He said that most men that come in for the inflammation of the eye usually don't wash their bedsheets and pillowcases that often, especially single men who live alone are at risk of the inflammation of the eye. Obivously I wash and dry my clothes every week but I did not see the point of washing my bedsheets and pillowcases because I am a very clean person and always bath before bed and upon waking up, I take a bath. He said what happens is that the dirt builds up over time from my skin and he had to ask me a very personal question, did I sleep in the nude when I go to bed, I said an embarrassed Yes huh ? then he said that if I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom then the small pieces after I have gone to the bathroom, no matter how much I wipe my butt clean, small pieces of feces matter do fall off onto the bed while I am asleep and I won't even notice it. He said what happens next is that when I make my bed in the morning and the bedsheets get made, what happens are those germs and small feces matter get spread out until eventually it reaches the pillowcase and makes it way there then when I go to bed at night, I rub my eye or something like that then the pillowcase germs get into my eye and now I have a full blown case of the inflammation of the eye, so now I am taking antiboitics in the form of eye drops and the medication is called,Tobramycin Solution 0.03 % OP 5 ML taken 3x a day ( 8:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and before bedtime ) with one drop into my right eye and cover with a clean washcloth flushed with cold water covered on my eye. The washcloths must be bought from the store absoutely new and clean. I can not use the washcloth I use from my kitchen or anything like that. The washcloth must be absoutely new and clean. I have a total of 30 clean white washcloths I bought at Dollar General for just $5.00 and I am to throw each washcloth away after every use. I am also being told to wash my bedsheets and pillowcases every 2 weeks and the doctor told me that his personal preference because of the aumont of people that he sees comes in for inflammation of the eye, he said he always has his wife wash the bedsheets and pillowcases every week. I am going to be buying new bedsheets and pillowcases at the store a.s.a.p. just to be on the safe side. I have to check back at the eye doctor's office next week and he said it is very important that I follow things exactly to the letter so that my eye can get better. From now on, I am washing my bedsheets and pillowcases every week. It may cost alittle more if you are doing it at the launderomat but it sure beats losing one eye or both eyes so please make sure those bedsheets and pillowcases do get washed and dried. I know it may be a hassle to single young Deaf men with work and trying to catch up with sleep and all of that but take the time each week to do your laundry with the bedsheets and pillowcases along with your clothes of course, the clothes and bed goods are washed and dried seperately. Hope this helps and you will not have to find out the hard way like I just did.
