I've had the experience of using VRI for the first time on Saturday when I took my oldest son to the emergency room @ the hospital. I wasn't even impressed of the VRI. Didn't like it.

Why didn't I like it? It is because when using the VRI, it wasn't equal access because the VRI wasn't connected the entire time for the duration of staying at the hospital. The room was bright (you know how bright the lights are at the hosp.) which presented some difficulties for the terp to be able to view me signing. The conversation dialogue was delayed. The nurse and doctor had to stand next to me in the camera's frame to speak and I stood there looking at the computer screen watching the terp, and I couldn't even keep my eyes on the screen the whole time while tending after my son.

Sure, the use of VRI is a nice tool to use but I personally would not rely on it. It is not suitable for a life-threatening situation or for one that needs immediate medical attention.

In overall, I'd prefer to have a LIVE terp at any time of the day than using the VRI.

True... I'd agree cuz of broadband traffic. It's annoying to have delayed transmission on VRI.
