Some guy tried to rob my friend at night. She lived in a town house in Boston. The dog had the run of the house at night. One night the dog heard someone breaking in through a window , so Teddy, dog name, laid down under the window and waited for the guy to put a leg in the house then Teddy bite the guy! The cheers for Teddy. I always think rescued dogs are best and love you most, because they know life can be bad.
 
Good dog! I feel more comfortable with my dogs around.
 
I don't trust Pit Bulls. They scare me to death. Has been so much bad news regarding the breed here in Jax. So many at the shelter and no one will adopt them.

As far as for asking Vick to visit the dogs he abused, maybe they should have just let him in the cage with the dogs. They could probably have a "friendly reunion"....but I don't believe dogs "forget" easily!
 
I can understand that some are scared.....but "all pit bulls are like such" same as "all so-and-so people are like this". The media plays on people's fear. The vast majority of Pitties - more so than dogs like Cocker Spaniels, Labs - have passed the ATTS - American Temperament test, which has 10 parts and includes things like - friendly approaching strangers, reactions to novel things, etc. There is no reason for shelters to blatantly refuse to adopt out or kill all Pitties or Rotties or whatever other than public's misunderstanding of them.
 
I love that people are afraid of Baby. They give me wide berth when I'm with her. People leave me alone. :D
 
with my Rotties, the waters are parted, path made wide :lol:....sometimes I like that, but sometimes not necessary-

MIAMI -- Speaking to eager kids on courtside bleachers at the Overtown Youth Center in Miami on Monday, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick continued his transformation from convicted dogfighter to mentor.

"That's my goal, to try to send a message across the world, use my story as a testimony to help a lot of young kids," Vick told Local 10's Janine Stanwood.

Several dozen elementary school children hollered and clapped when Vick took to the floor and began speaking.

"I believed in myself. And, as young kids right now, that's probably the most important thing you have to do. Believe in yourself," he told them.

Vick was released from home confinement last summer after being sentenced to 23 months in federal prison.

"I was involved in things I never was supposed to be involved in. That was my downfall," he said.

Last summer, Vick was given a second chance at football: signing a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He speaks to kids about twice a month with the Humane Society about dog-fighting as part of his probation.

"I think it helps everyone succeed and stay on the right track," said Keyana Joseph, a fourth-grader.

But for Vick, it's more than just a probation requirement.

"It's not just an obligation, because I look at so many lives that can be affected," he said.

"We have forgiven Michael Vick," said Tio Hardiman, of the Humane Society of America.

Hardiman also believes he public has forgiven Vick, too.

"America loves a great redemption story," he said.

The pitbull I rescued many years ago was protective and good also. This was in El Paso. The three old people who lived next door would give her any meat that passed the expiration date, so she would take her food bowl if it got empty and run to the fence by their yard.

She was great with my kids, and she would lean against the fence and let the neighbors grandchildren pull her ears and tail.

I rescued her after a gang that had been teaching her to fight moved to Kansas. (mostly members were one family.)

But I strongly believe that a lot of dogs that have already been fighters, can be rehabilitated. Her best friend was the cat we had at the time, and they would sit together for hours.

Her favorite game was to grab the head of our pug in her mouth until he lost his temper, and then she would run while he chased her until he was tired.

Pitbulls are good dogs. It is only the bad owners who are responsible.

I love you so much for your comments.

It is the owners that make the dogs bad.

It is the same argument that people have with guns.

Guns do not kill. People with the finger pulling the triggers are the one killing the people. Apply this philosophy with the dogs; bad training, horrible approaches with the dogs.

Dogs react to how they have been treated. Treat them with kindness and they will treat you with kindness.

They've got the same natural instincts as us.
 
Good for him. He's human like rest of us. He s trying to get on a good grace with NFL commissioner so he can continue to play in NFL>

I'd like to think I'm human, and do make mistakes. But, there are some mistakes I've never made, and never will make, and that is to abuse an animal!....Sure, he wants to move on and play football, and he is a good player....but he sucks as a human being, if you wanna call him that!

Cows and pigs (pigs are far smarter than dogs) are subject to the most inhumane torture yet we don't punish farmers or butchers.

Hell, dogs are being abused and eaten in eastern countries.

Vick already apologized and redeemed his actions. Let's not dogpile on him and let him live his life.
 
They are just trying to punish Vick more. He's not under any obligation to do what they want.
 
Can people who abuse vulnerable creatures be rehabilitated? Can you trust someone like this again? When he finishes his sentence, he's free to return to his life. He'll have to earn back respect and trust.

Sure. Chinese are normal and they eat dogs regularly much like we eat pigs in America. lulz.
