Lower birth rates putting brakes on population growth

That's what the Census Bureau projects will be the population of the United States on New Year's Day. The number of people increased by 2,272,462 or 0.73% since the last time a population snapshot was taken -- April 1, 2010.

In January, America can expect one birth every eight seconds and one death every 12 seconds.

America's population is growing at a slower pace than was previously projected, the Census Bureau said. One reason is lower birth rates starting in 2008, when the economy soured. Lower immigration numbers have also affected the population.

The U.S. population is now projected to be around 399.8 million by 2050, far short of the 439 million that was projected four years ago.

"When we add up the numbers, 24.4 million fewer migrants plus 17.8 million fewer births minus 4.6 million fewer deaths plus 1.6 million difference in the estimates of the population for the population in 2011, we arrive at the total difference of 39.2 million," the Census Bureau said.

That's a whole lotta numbers. But we get the picture. We won't be catching up with China anytime soon.

We had low birth rate in past, especially Great Depression era.

The financial crisis in 2007-2008 caused slowdown to the population and less immigrants, so we are not ready for more immigrants because of slow job growth. It will be reverse if economy is fully recover and we probably not hit 439 millions as projected, so the projection changes in anytime, depends on economy, immigration and birth rate.

The state that have a lot of population growth by around several millions - Florida, California, Texas, Nevada and Arizona.

Georgia, North Carolina, Colorado and Utah will growing by few millions more from 2000 to 2050.

The resource, especially water and energy are important key and I know that Georgia has problem with water supply so they may unable to growing so more without find way to increase the water supply, that will hurt neighboring states, Alabama and Florida.

They don't call us "The Lost Generation" for nothing.
We have put off moving out, put off getting married, put off having kids, and put off living our lives because of this economy.

Oh, you're talking about a revolution, then? Well, I have thought about that. Right now, people have it too good. Want to help out? Remember, if you voted democrat or republican at the national level, you are part of the problem. My conscience is clear.

We did -- we voted in record numbers.
But we can't save a ship that was already sinking before we came aboard.

I should have read further before posting previously.

Wrong answer, if you did not vote Libertarian. Anytime you vote for either party, you're voting for perpetuity of the system that is broken/rigged/gamed in the first place.

The other thing you did not do was organize and lead a revolution. Sometimes you have to take the gov't back the hard way.
