My girlfriend just moved in an apartment with her cat. When she lived with her Mom, the cat had a Bichon Frise as a companion. The cat would sometimes try to eat dog food.

Now the cat is living by herself and does not have any animals to play with. The cat would try to escape every time someone goes in or out. My girlfriend worries because cat thinks that the whole building is one house, not her unit. She asked me for advice.

I told her that she needs to teach her cat some ASL so that I would be able to talk to cat and tell her to not escape. She said her cat does not know English either.

I know it may help to have TV on. My girlfriend told me that her cat is a Detroit Lions fan. However, they don't play every day. I've tried to tell my girlfriend that maybe the cat will like other friend. However, my girlfriend thinks she likes being the only cat. Plus, it may cost more in pet fees if getting 2nd cat.

Sooooo what do you think???

Put on some qentle music?

teach the cat not to escape, by grabbing her gently and walk away from the door and say 'No'

Good idea. Music will help. My girlfriend is a big Beatles fan. Maybe she can teach the cat to be a Beatles fan.

You can buy Cat Videos (of birds, hamsters, mice). My cats liked these. I haven't played them for the cats in a long while.

Takes time to get the idea of restricted areas as you said just moved in. Discourage the cat being near the door when the door is open to start with.

I felt bad for my cats when we moved from the house here. My Nonna had a living area downstairs in our home that my father renovated. There were windows all around and our cats absolutely loved it, especially when the squirrels or baby skunks would come up and look in. I've given them a cat house in my room that they can jump on to look out the window or sleep on during the warm days and hear the ducks outside. Small thrills....

Our cat is so independent and michevious...but he gets angry whenever I leave the house with the doggie and if the boys are not there...then he's alone....I leave the TV on most all the time until we go to bed...

So I'd leave the TV/music on...a way he could jump up to see out a window or glass door, etc....

Today, her cat escaped and I went after it. I was worried cat may jump off balcony so I grabbed the cat. I now have cust over right hand.

My wife got 2 Havaneese puppies shes training for show dogs, dont think they will be due to aggression, One took my sons food, went to take it back and it bit me, thats right, bite the hands that feed you.....wont happen again.

Sometimes I feel......

Get fish. Then teach the cat how to terrorize them

I knew someone that had some fish and everyday they had one less fish in the tank. The people where not sure who was eating the fish until they caught their cat 'fishing' with his paw and claws!
