CLOTHES*DRYER TIP

Never thought about doing this -- just learned about it -- will try it myself. When my heating unit went out on our dryer, the Fix-It guy that I called went into the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It appeared to be clean.
We always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes. He told us that he wanted to show us something. He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it.

Now, this thing is like a mesh, I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like - WELL ... the hot water just laid on top of the mesh!!! It didn't go through it at all!!! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh and that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there.

He said the best way to keep your clothes dryer working for a very
long time (and to keep your ! electric bill lower) is to take that
filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday! I sure didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, thought I'd share!
Note: I went to dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water collected a little but then slowly ran through the screen. I dried it off and was about to put it back in, since the water had run through, when I decided ... what the heck it won't hurt to wash it while I had it out.
Warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds.
I then ran the water over the screen, and what a difference the water just gushed through it with no puddling at all and this time I was running the water at a faster rate. That repairman knew what he was talking about.

COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S CLOTHES DRYER FROM BURNING O UT, BUT QUITE
POSSIBLY THEIR HOME

Not when I live in an apartment. There is no yard or place to hang clothes, still gotta dry clothes in the dryer in hot weather. :P

It is too humid here in the summer; it takes forever for things to dry outside. Also, it rains almost every afternoon.

I just checked WeatherBug:
Currently (10:27 a.m.) 84 degrees, 76% humidity = 92 degrees heat index
Hazy, 40% chance of rain this afternoon. Hi temp today will be 92 degrees (about 100 degrees heat index)

If I hang out a dry towel, it becomes damp from the humidity.

I prefer to hang clothes on line outside to dry instead of dryer but I ain't gonna to hang my personal clothes

I agree with Bullymom and Liebling because it is a waste of electricity and money to put clothes in the dryer. I do hang up my clothes on the shower curtain rod by hanging each shirt on individual hangers and overnight, it dries. There are some clothes that cannot be in the dryer and has to be hanged up or lay flat to dry.

Thanks for the tip. :)

I tried the water test on my filter. It flowed thru, no problem. Still, it is a good idea to keep the filter clean.

It is also important to check the exhaust pipe from the dryer. If it gets clogged (from lint or bird's nest), it can cause a fire. Also, it is important that the duct from the dryer is tightly connected, not loose.

Partly true, the longnevity is not the real concern. Most dryer last VERY VERY long time no matter how cheap it is. They don't have much parts to wear out. The REAL CONCERN is fire hazard. Failure to maintain clean duct and system is a true fire hazard. The more lint in there the more potential for it to catch fire and spread faster than you can chase.

Can't hang laundry out today; the humidity is already 93% at 8 a.m.! It is too wet outside (as usual in the summer here). Ugh!

Interesting, my clothes would dry very quickly when the weather is tooo hot... it would dry within 30 minutes to 1 hour....

I can´t image that dry towel would become damp thru humidity during summer time... :-o

Imagine that you take a long, hot steamy shower with the bathroom door closed, and the fan off. After you turn off the water, the steam is still in the room. That is what high humidity is like. If you hang your towel in a steamy room, will it dry quickly? Nope.

Yes, I can understand what you mean but in summer time... it´s new to me...
