Trampling Gun Rights

I grew up with guns, whether hunting or plinking. I'm also a life member of the NRA. I can tell you firsthand that there are some guns out there that have no business being on the market. These guns are designed for the purpose of nothing more than killing people. THOSE, in my opinion, are the ones that should be banned or restricted.

I agree with you.

Sounds good in theory but the reality is, who would make the determination about which guns that would include and what the restrictions would be?

I'm sorry but once restrictions, no matter how reasonable they seem, begin to be applied to the 2nd Amendment, there's no telling where they will stop.

I have permit to carry concealed but philosophically I'm even uncomfortable with that restriction. If our government ever decides to collect up guns, they will have a nice list of all permit holders to start with.

The purpose of this thread is just to simply raise some awareness about our Constitutional rights (not just gun rights) being trampled over by police officers who are sadly misinformed or even ill-informed about the laws. It is said that due to atmosphere fostered by a certain political agenda... it is "encouraging" officers to trample over our rights because they can get away from it. to make it worse - they will continue to do so despite of higher courts' rulings that support us because in the end - the citizens will just give up and just go along with it to avoid headache (like giving up on gun).

my latest post from other thread -

Thanks for the post. I wish the government would stay out of things that don't concern them-it is our constitutiuonl right to bare arms. What the heck is wrong with people-new laws don't protect us from those who break them anyway-they could careless.

Great post, Reba! And good morning to you! I know you're having lunch.......

perfectly understandable and it's tricky. There are guns that are designed for self-defense purpose and there are other guns that are designed for killing dozens of people. They do not need UZI, breaching shotgun, automatic assault weapon, etc.

I would say to leave the decision up to the voters.

Jiro, if you don't like breaching shotguns, then how about a blunderbuss for in-the-home, close quarters protection? :D

Jiro, if you don't like breaching shotguns,
I didn't say I don't like it but it shouldn't be available for any gun owners because that is offensive-type weapon for police officers to make forcible entry. What can a law-abiding gun owner do with it? hhhmmmm.... shoot at intruder? that's rather overkill :)

then how about a blunderbuss for in-the-home, close quarters protection? :D
I approve of it :cool2:

Ok, then, save me all your rusty nails, washers, nuts, bolts, placentas, and thumb tacks. :D

20 bullets from a .223 is like three hours at the range easy. I like to shoot three then let my gun cool down.

Whoops, that is not what I meant.
20 bullets in three hours? My, my, you are rather reserved as a shooter, lol. I used to go through several boxes with my AR-15 back in the eighties at my favorite spot at the river within an hour. Man, that was fun!
I am asking...suppose I have a box of .223 from, say, 1985. Will it still be safe to shoot?

Why do you have to let it cool down after only three shots? Is your gun a standard or heavy barrel?

Just wondering... How long does a box of .223 last?
Hubby uses about 100-300 rounds in a session at the outdoor range. A box of 20 lasts about 10 seconds in semi-auto mode. He uses a Bushmaster AR-15 carbine.

Whoops. I said I had an AR-15. It was an AK-M.
Anyway, it looks like no one knows how long you can leave .223 ammo unused. I could google to find out but hey, I am on vacation here.

Hubby says that in his readings of the NRA magazines, ammo that is clean and dry (no rust/corrosion) is fine. If it's been in your care that should be OK. The main concern about older ammo is if you buy old ammo from other countries where you don't know how it was stored.

You could show it to a gun smith for peace of mind.
