A tree fell on a group of deaf tourists in the central Italian town of L'Aquila yesterday, killing a 47-year-old man and injuring seven people who could not hear a bus driver's cry of alarm.
The tourists were about to board the bus to return home to Rome after a day sightseeing.
"The bus driver shouted to warn them, but they couldn't hear," said Angelo Cardelli, a civic official. It was not clear why the 100-year-old chestnut tree toppled.
