Anyone own Tmobile Wing or Dash? I am curious how good it is? Does either PDA allow you to use as Phone As Modem like some Blackberry do? Are either device allow you to download AIM, Yahoo, MSN ect.. Does it allow you to transfer Video to PDA and let you watch movies (from PC to PDA).

Any problem you encountered with either devices?

Thanks
Catty

I believe both of those devices are using latest Windows Mobile 6 which have an appication built in called "Internet Sharing" basically you either use usb cable or bluetooth then start internet sharing software and your laptop or computer running Windows OS should detect it and connect to the device to tether it to internet via cell phone wireless.

But you would need to check to see if TMobile charges extra for tethering to laptop or computer.

And like BB you would need to purchase IM but Windows Mobile 6 comes with Windows Live which have MSN and I think it uses txt msg not data so be better to purchase IM that uses data.

I am sure Wings which is simlar to my 8525 that have Windows Media on which can watch video in certain format. I watch youtube video on my AT&T 8525.

Interesting.. Since it use Windows Mobile 6, AIM, Yahoo and MSN will be included as an extra charge. I don't think it should be much.. What about PDF format if I'm using browser? Same as Java ect.. I would ask Tmobile if they charges for using it as a Phone as Modem.. Just wonder what are advantage and disadvantage on OSes between Blackberry Curve and Tmobile Dash and Wing???

I have USB bluetooth dongle that I bought it in Ebay for my laptop (can be my desktop too). It use Bluesolei 2.6 driver from IVT (It's compatible with Linux tho). I got a good idea on how bluetooth works.

As for video.. I figured it out by using my daughter's 8GB Sandisk Sansa View player and able to download and convert youtube video into 320x340 format using any-video-converter software (freeware) and transferred the file thru USB connection from PC to Sansa.. Works nicely!! I got my coworkers drooling. My daughter downloaded 11 part of japanese movie "Death Note" w/ English subtitle. Subtitles are readable but not to anyone over 65 years old LOL (I teased 65 years old co worker, if you can't see it, you're too old!!) If I got those Cellular PDA, I would love to convert protected DVD movies (include subtitles) into my pda to keep me occupied during work downtime or breaktime.

Thanx

Windows Mobile 6 is an OS it not an software application but WM6 does come with some software application and since it from Microsoft I am pretty sure they are not including AIM, Yahoo on the WM6 however it does have Windows Live which have MSN with it and I believe the MSN uses txt msg not data internet to send and recieve messages.

It not an "extra charage" but you can purchase software for your WM6 and there are several Instant Message for WM6 that you can buy and install it on your PDA Even if you sold or give your PDA away you can remove it from your PDA and install it on your next new PDA since licence is lifetime purchase.

Some celll companies includes other apps like AIM or Yahoo or Music Store into WM6 for free to help sell PDAs better so you can check to see if it got them. Like Moto include Opera with their WM6 to encourage folk to buy their Q9h PDA.

Same thing. Some you can download for free a PDF viewer for phone or purchase a better PDF viewer on WM6.

WM6 come with a browser PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) but there are other browser you can download and use it on your PDA. Some browser have better java support than Pocket Internet Explorer like Mobile Opera but it cost to buy the software.

I think the advantage and disadvantage on the OSes there is none but Blackberry uses it own BB OS and Dash uses SPWM6 (Smart Phone Windows Mobile) which have no touchscreen and Wings use WM6 (Windows Mobile) which have touchscreen.

For laptop connection, WM6 are easiest to connect and require no software installed on your laptop but Blackberry require a connection software installed on your laptop and Sprint are know to keep track of BB usage on laptop to charge extra for Phone as Modem BUT I do know Sprint deaf plane includes PAM (phone as modem) however I have seen several deaf people using it and still get billed for it. They have to spend almost every month on relay on phone to call and complain and make Sprint remove the PAM usage from their Sprint bills.

I believe there are lot more Windows Mobile or PPC software applications you can download for free or buy and try. Many different video player or tv viewer or games etc. There are many Blackberry software application out there but I believe WM have the most avaiable out there.

Bluetooth are nice to have but remember when bluetooth are enabled it drain the PDA battery quicker than normal.

All I can say, I'd recommend AT&T tilt (8925). It's newer version of 8525. If you want high speed wireless, AT&T network is for you. T-mobile's network is pretty much slow and have lot of connection problems.

T-mobile Wing is similar to the AT&T 8525 or 8925 and it's missing 3g network.

Does all those work when travel out of town to a country area? cuz I know my SK 2 not work in country area when I visit my folks.

I have a SK3 works good for outside of metro area, My SK3 have a tri-band (2 in USA and 1 other international). You oughta get a SK3 or SKLX when your SK2 worns out... I used on SK2 at my camping, the SK2 changed to hollow phone for 911 emergency only (911 Celltowers) in smallest town able to call 911.

Yup, fully aware of it. I can always charge while using it. I would use 12vDC car cig plug to keep it charged while using it. OR at some location, use 120vac power adapter so I don't have any problem with it unless you're in some area where you have no choice but to be brief using bluetooth. Hearing people use bluetooth to connect with their headset to listen music or talk on pda.
