This makes me worry!!

If it doesn't happen, then we uncover some secrets of the universe. If it does happen, that's the way I've always wanted to go anyway, so I say bring it on.

Same here. If the worldwide destruction is instanteous, how would we know? It would be a whole another Reality to get used to. :)

similar only because stargate has a lot of episodes relating to blackholes in outer space.

If you remember the episode when SGC had sent a team to a world and, when they dialed back, they'd dialed a world that was being consumed by black hole and, because they couldn't close the open wormhole, they started suffering major time distortions, then it's similar to that except on a smaller scale and in Switzerland.

Thank you, bramus. I have only seen random of SGC. But i understand what you are talking about. I think I pretty much got it.

I do see the clear picture what collider is all about and what does it for. I don't know how I feel about having the collider being exist. The problem is that people are curious about going into the other world. One thing is that I certainly hope that this issue is not going to happen like the movie called "The mist".

Some guys have been watching too many sci-fi films.

Not yet. were similar in some way as the stargate or completly different?

no. not at all. Angels and Demons are more accurate except the explosion thing. StarGate is a complete fiction. It's as impossible as time travel.

Ok what exaclty angels and demons do? like open the secret code and something comes out of it?

The Mist? that was an enjoyable movie but no. This supercollider thing is not for time travel or space travel. It's to study the elusive Higgs boson aka God Particle. They called it "God Particle" simply because it's as mysterious as the existence of God.

But that nickname caused a lot of scare to people and it also makes a great idea for movie... like Angels and Demons - a "blackhole" bomb.

Ok, were that something like finding the gibberish language to open the secret code and something that will change in life like you said, the mysterious as the existence of God.

Ok what angels and demons do exactly? like open the secret code and something comes out of it?

no no. In Angels and Demons - it's about super collider thing to capture "God Particle". The experiment was successful and they captured 3 "God Particle" which is like a tiny shiny dot. (see pix below). and then the terrorist broke in to steal 1 particle cuz it will create a "blackhole bomb" - very powerful. yada yada yada... some action here.. some shooting there... yada yada.... everybody got saved... yada yada...

but that movie gives you a general idea about super collider. rest of it... it's fiction.

Anyone who says they know exactly whats will happen really needs help. Even the sharpest minds involved in the creation of this monster don't know what will happen for sure. Their are risks and both sides admit it but those who are for the expirement merely downplay the risks. My problem is not nearly enough thought has gone into what this monster can cause to happen-blackholes-big bang or whatever else. They really need to study what risks can happen before they turn it on and quite frankly I hope it never runs and becomes a huge failure.

Money wasted on this piece of junk could have gone to starving children, medicine or even a surer thing-space exploration. Stupid scientist, when they created the atomic bomb they had no idea how destructive it was until they first tested. The explosion was so immense it shocked ans scared the hell out of everyone because it spread out much farther than anticipated, they didn't know if it was going to stop. It seams we as humans can not learn from our mistakes.

Honestly do you want the lives our families and fellow human kind to be at the mercy of a few who just want to play around with something they know little about?

oh no no. It wasn't to find out the existence of God. The terrorist used biblical reference for his plot to blow up Vatican City. Terrorist's biblical reference were the clues for Tom Hanks and this woman to find him.

because of the particle called "God Particle", I guess the Hollywood thought it'd be cool to combine that with religion :dunno:

Sorry but you neglected to put the rest of the paragraph in. It looks like it only ran for 9 days and then was shut down due to serious problems and to add additional safety features. :hmm: From the link you provided it states it is scheduled to be operational in mid November of 09. You are refering to the test run that was conducted in September of 08. (see more below from the links you provided)

On 10 September 2008, the proton beams were successfully circulated in the main ring of the LHC for the first time.[4] On 19 September 2008, the operations were halted due to a serious fault between two superconducting bending magnets.[5] Due to the time required to repair the resulting damage and to add additional safety features, the LHC is scheduled to be operational in mid-November 2009.[6][7]

And in the below link you provided it states that it was only a test run.

As many scientists have pointed out, today’s test run didn’t involve any actual collisions; those will come later when particles shoot around the track in both directions and smash into each other. Therefore today’s event could never have produced any breathtaking results, it was simply intended to test the equipment.

and many more
Show me more that are not refering to the test run

Oh and by the way, thos is said they turned it on and nothing happened, you partially right, nothing happened because they couldn't get enough power.

umm ok why are those scientists want to learn about it? for what?

correct me if I'm wrong - the point of this experiment is to understand Black Hole theory better and to HOPEFULLY get another clue to understand Higgs boson mystery. (Don't ask me what is it cuz I have absolutely no idea... Just telling you what I read).

Like I said - do you seriously think we could create a mini blackhole? IMPOSSIBLE! not in this lifetime! You know what's the equivalency? Wright Brothers creating supersonic engine for airplane and people are getting worried about it creating devastating sonic boom wave that will kill everybody on its path

(which is... of course impossible for Wright Brothers to invent supersonic engine in their era)
If I am correctly understanding what I am reading, they know MBH's will be created. The expectation is that they will evaporate as quickly as they are created. The problem is, what happens if they don't?

what I just proved that collider works. everything works. nothing happened like massive explosion. now they'll step it up to colliding particles. during that process - bunch of things went wrong.... like power failure, bad wires, busted magnetic plates, etc.

those poor bastards.......

if I can answer that or to theorize it, I would be working for them :)

ever considered that if this experiment was successful - it can lead to hundred of possibilities such as free clean energy? a new powerful space engine? a deeper understanding of our universe?

The explosion was from the device, not particle because of huge amount of hydrogen and electricity involved.

there's no way to understand it any better than what we know now. It's been a mystery for more than 40 years. I assure you that this is well-studied by all great minds in the world but they all came to same conclusion - "I don't know. We'll never know until we try it out."

Oh and by the way, thos is said they turned it on and nothing happened, you partially right, nothing happened because they couldn't get enough power.
I belive nothing happened because it was a test run not intended to cause the collisions required for the experiment. In other words, nothing was suppose to happen and that was by design.

That is actually a pretty scary statement. I don't think the entire scientific community shares that answer.
