This Labor Day, Much of America Will Be . . . Laboring

For whom is it sad? If people are working that means they aren't unemployed. There are lots of Labor Day sales consumers can benefit from.

Aside--this isn't a holiday for TCS and me. He works plus we both have on-line class assignments due today. No big deal. Not sad.

The chart shows US has zero. That's unbelievable. Alot of working Americans get paid holidays/vacations, too.

The chart isn't about the paid holidays/vacations people actually get. It's about the number of paid holidays/vacations that are legally required by each country. So some people get more than the legal requirement, depending on their jobs. The article said that people most strongly affected (statistically) by the lack of requirement are the ones with the lowest (lowest quarter) wages - about half of them don't get any paid time off.

ZERO? No way!

It would be very sad for our county if most people where NOT laboring. We would all be a bad shape . During the Great Depression people would had been trilled to death to been working on Labor day.

Not actually zero paid days off for everyone in the US.

Just that the US government doesn't *legally require* paid time off.

You don't believe that? Are you saying you think the US does legally require paid days off for employees here?

Yes, that why I said it is sad for our country.

In bold, you are correct about our government doesn't require employers to give employees paid days off.

I get it. I just asked my daughter who works for a dentist if she gets paid holidays, paid vacations and paid sick leave. She said no. That sucks. Like the dentist, some employers don't offer benefits at all. I thought the chart showed the average.

That was my first thought too, that they were showing averages. (and like you said, no way.) I had to go back and read it again to catch what it said.

I wonder what the actual laws are, that mandate these minimum paid vacations in other countries. If they just apply to full time employees, or what other conditions might be involved.

Again, sad how? Personally I find it sad that someone would want MORE government control.

As for Labor Day I never closed for it.
