I have a problem getting the subtitles to work when I want to play Myst V: End of Ages. I tried to play it few years ago but had problems with it so I set it aside. I found it and thought I'd try to install it. I installed it although it said it is skipping the sounddecompress.exe part. I don't care for sounds but I do care for the subtitles. I send my question to support.ubi.com and I got the answer: look in the hints and tips forum. I just answer to him that it is really a technical problem and that I doubt he would say the same thing to someone with the sound problem.

When the original Myst came out, it wasn't subtitled. I send an email to the man who create it. His response is to get someone to listen to the game for me. He really doesn't get it. What if I can't sleep at 3 AM and want to play the game to pass the time? I know a certain someone would listen but not tell me every word. This person would say "oh I know, it got to be this and that" and put me on a wild goose chase. That is why I prefer subtitles.

I felt I am getting the brush-off.

Do you have the same kind of problem? And what are your thoughts?

You're not the only one.

I played Myst when it first came out for the Mac. I could hear the sounds in the game, but I couldn't understand some of it. For instance, I couldn't distinguish the different sounds made from the keyboard. So, I couldn't tell which key I should press. Another part was the voices that came from the people that were stuck in the book. I used a guide to help me through those 2 parts.

When Riven came out, I contacted them asking why it wasn't subtitled. They said they didn't consider it, but would take it into consideration when making future games.

When Exile[/] came out, I found out it wasn't subtitled/captioned... and complained again. I got the same response... that they would take it into consideration for future products.

This happened again when Revelations came out, then again when End of Ages came out.

I even suggested that if they were to ever release the entire series in a set, they should add subtitles/captions. They said it was a great idea, but I haven't seen anything yet. :(
