:dance2: It is great posting on AllDeaf, we meet new people, make new friends, and it does well in the communication department.

The more we read others postings, and learn from other members here on AD, it helps our communication go to a higher level of understanding, and it keeps communication going back and forth.

I really enjoy posting here on AD.

yes i agree with steel.. there is alot of members who needs improving with their english, i am also not going to mention who. But i am sure some of them, like myself just type, and dont try to fix their errors or english or grammar. For me I just type sloppy. I have pretty good english for my age in the deaf community, but i dont show it here cuz i dont like to brag about it etc. SO i am sure there are other members like that.

That's b/c Deaf people approach English as a SECOND language. You'd see a lot of simalir errors on sites with lots of members who speak English as their second language.
darkangel....very true...you do have good English for a Deaf kid!

Please explain your statement as I have some problems with it. {To explain myself, I'm one of those who has always functioned in the hearing world just like them either with a HA previously or now a CI}. The problem I have with that is while the deaf use other tools to communicate such as ASL and whatnot, unless I'm mistaken everybody has to at least read in English. One would think that would be like being bilingual equally versed in two languages. Perhaps, I'm missing something here...

I think it depends on those members' motivation.

For me, I push myself to do better and better. That's why my posts tend to be mostly grammatically correct as well as proper spelling use. I rarely use slangs or short terms like BRB, LOL, WTF, etc. I like to get my point across as clear as possible. If I make quick short replies to something that needs a long serious clear reply, then people will interpret my response in many different ways.

I agree with ya.. I do think that this is a good opportunity for us to learn from each other and pick up words and learn what that means etc... As far as for me, its helping me.. I think I've got good english here but still learn things everyday!

Well, I think that for some of those who can't do english real well are fully ASL.. When someone type like that, you sign to yourself when reading.. you'll understand.. that's ASL..
As for me, I mainstreamed and I'm very much in between SEE and ASL.. as you can see I use full english here. I sign both ways. but I can understand why those who can't do english very well is because they were taught different, different environment, depends on where you went to school and how your skills are and what level you're in. For example, there are very few deafs in Alabama that are gifted.. Most deaf people in Alabama are low because of the education here. I'm just lucky to have the right school at the right time and I was taught just like everybody else. As for those who weren't lucky just wasn't lucky but they know how to read and write, at least!

I read many books and close captioning and even on message board...
but still my grammar is bad.

It is like listening to music and learning piano lesson,
but I can't never be like Beethoven or Alicia Keys.

Unless I keep practice practice and practice hard....

So when I read forum, I just ignored some sentence.

ok I understands your feeling. Same me too.

I am not really expert in using english but the best I could do better at it. Patient is the best way to do studing grammar and practice repeat unitl becomes expert. So you can speaks in english as being like classy and high class and no more using low class forever. If you did become high class then your happiness life is out there for you.
