I've been wondering about this for years, and now that I have a laptop of my own I really wish I had a way to stop this.

Why is it that on laptops with ThinkPads, if you use the ThinkPad to do a lot of scrolling, sometimes the mouse starts moving when you stop touching the ThinkPad?

The only way I've found to stop it, once it's started, is to go to the little control panel on the taskbar of my laptop, "disable" the ThinkPad, then re-enable it. Usually that stops it, though sometimes I've had to do it twice.

This has become a big issue to me since I have to read a lot of PDF files on my laptop, for school, and it happens a lot when I'm reading those.

This bug/issue has been around for as long as the ThinkPad exists, to the best of my knowledge, so I'm sure there's some smart techie around here who knows what's going on. Sorry if this is an old question to most of you guys, but I guess I'm a little bit behind the times. ;)

You mean "touchpad?"

I am not sure what's exactly problem with your touchpad. Do you still have warranty?

This is touchpad that what you talk about it?

Some touchpads have some weird behavior under Windows 2000 and XP and can cause annoying cursor movement.

my first suggestion would be to use a PS/2-USB adapter on the mouse to plug into the computer. If this idea makes your shudder or is not possible, try updating the device driver for the touchpad

if that is not an option or does not work, disable the touchpad in device manager.

I may have been using the wrong terminology for everything.

I just checked and the device with the weird behavior seems to be called the "pointing stick". The laptop also has a touch pad, which acts just fine.

Maybe that'll help the confusion? Sorry again. :(

Who care. No one perfect. My grammar skill is not great and no big deal!

Do you still have warranty?

I much prefer using my wireless mouse than the touch pad. I have a "mini" mouse for the laptop, so it is easy to tote around.

I guess it depends on personal preference. Some people prefer mouse, some touch pad, some track ball, some touch screen.

yea my aged laptop (Compaq Amanda 700m with 700mhz pen3) with pointing stick has the same problem, but it doesn't annoy me at all. let it move curiously around while i stare at it. i wish it can read my mind that tells it to move to this and that. ;)

Ohh I get it! Well Pointing stick is not popluare anymore and my laptop dont have one. Must be dirty or stuck inside that how it move weird.
