Hey all!
Here is my ASL video as promised...
Will you all watch it and tell me what you think?
I tried to be more mindful of lighting conditions and wearing a darker top. :)

When saying the title, be sure to fingerspell "tree" as well ;). I thought it was generally good. However I would say have to that the story was in PSE format, more than in ASL format. But this is a HARD story to interpret because of the way the text is structured.

I will remember abt the title - thanks. I agree with you abt the format. I wish my teacher was more strict abt our format. Suggestions as to how I could improve the structure?

I love that story - but please no dark fingernail colors - it can become distracting but otherwise it was a good one :) It is more in a PSE format so I was able to understand it clearly :)
 
Agree with the others that this is more PSE, but is also a difficult piece to interpret. Nice work!

It was enjoyable to do.
I am going to talk to my teacher tomorrow...I feel as if I'm in a "language rut" and just not going anywhere. I have very good conversational fluency. I can make myself understood, and I can understand, but it's "not right" if you know what I mean. . .
 
The only advice I know to give is to allow yourself to think out of the box. ASL gives you the freedom to take the text and to make it come alive. Be the tree - feel the tree and its emotions. Don't tell...show. A good way to practice is getting one of those board games where you act out something and someone has to guess what you are doing. Cut up the text and put it in the bowl. Have a friend (or better yet, friends) come over and help you out. Pull out a sentence and act it out. See if they can guess what the text is. This is a good way to practice - and it's a lot of fun! ;)
 
I watched the whole thing and thought it was a good story and I was sad at the end because the tree gave away everything he had. Thanks for doing your best as you can with the story. I understood the story!

I had a talk with my teacher today. She says I should get more involved in the Deaf community here and I'll improve quickly. :)
 
Yep, if you involved with the deaf community more. You will improve quickly. Lot of deaf for sure will enjoy chatting with you. :)
