Heh! Thanks! I was asking my dr about getting one (not that i need pregnancy prevention :D but for helping out with regularity, etc) Will print this out for my visit with my doctor tmrw.

No problem :)

FYI:

The patch and the pill is essentially the same birth control method, but with a different delivery sytem being the only difference. You ingest the pill whereas you wear the patch. The two prevent pregnancy by hormonal means, and therefore, carry similiar side effects.

Hope this helps. :)

ALL birth control methods carry a RISK. Even condom for those who are allergic to LATEX! That is a danger to their health if they got an allergic reaction and possibly die from .... A CONDOM?? Yes it is possible. EVERYTHING got a risk.

the Pill increases your risk of breast cancer.

the Patch increases your risk of blood clots, as you stated.

The shot (Depo-prion I'm sorry I cannot spell) increases your risk of blood problems.

I can go on forever here. I can pull out my Human of Sexuality and list them here....Even IUDs have its list of risks. Nothing is safe.

It is better for you to judge your chances because everybody's medical history is not same... I am ok for the patch because I have no blood issues in my family. No heart attacks or cancers, thus my increased risk is MINOR compared to those who have the history of cancers which may increase their risks drastically in comparison to me.

Should I make a thread (or post) all risks and pros of each Birth control methods from my textbook so everybody can be cleared up??

Thanks for the attention FeistyChick, I had no idea it cause blood clots

Do you think it's possible that they forgot to remove the old patch and put a new patch on, might be the reason for having blood clots? or if the women are smoking because I remember reading it somewhere that women shouldn't be smoking when using this birth control patch. :dunno:

It's true gnarlydorkette, that everyone's medical history aren't the same, Each person is different. :D

No. The birth control patch is derived from a hormone just like the pill is. It's these hormones that have the potential to cause blood clots in some women. Especially, those who smoke.

Ohhhh... I found the link FiestyChick :thumb:

http://www.boston.com/yourlife/heal.../17/birth_control_patch_may_pose_health_risk/

By Martha Mendoza, AP National Writer | July 17, 2005, About a dozen women, most in their late teens and early 20s, died last year from blood clots believed to be related to the birth-control patch Ortho Evra. Dozens more survived strokes and other clot-related problems, according to federal drug safety reports obtained by The Associated Press under a Freedom of Information Act request.

Breaking News Alerts Several lawsuits have already been filed by families of women who died or suffered blood clots while using the patch, and lawyers said more are planned.

Though the Food and Drug Administration and patch-maker Ortho McNeil saw warning signs of possible problems with the patch well before it reached the market, both maintain that the patch is as safe as the pill.

However, the reports obtained by the AP appear to indicate that in 2004 -- when 800,000 women were on the patch -- the risk of dying or suffering a survivable blood clot while using the device was about three times higher than while using birth control pills.

The women who died were young and apparently at low risk for clots -- women like Zakiya Kennedy, an 18-year-old Manhattan fashion student who collapsed and died in a New York subway station last April. Or Sasha Webber, a 25-year-old mother of two from Baychester, N.Y., who died of a heart attack after six weeks on the patch last March.

Some doctors, reviewing the Food and Drug Administration reports at the request of The AP, were alarmed. "I was shocked," said Dr. Alan DeCherney, editor-in-chief of Fertility and Sterility and a UCLA professor of obstetrics and gynecology

Is that the one you saw on the news?

FiestyChick...

Calm down... relax... *dig your breath deep down and relase your breath go*

Not specific whole of BC. brands name... what kind the B.C. patch name ??? Side effects some of women who have 1% hide have true allergic somewhat...

Rest other brand of BC patch not side effect them.. depend women adapt it.. who faults... Family doctor prescrition to women and kind brand of B.C. patch total WRONG ones... Should have colusuation take blood work first and to find proprite brand sutiable fit for women's health can adapt Birth control patch..

Some of my friends who have no problem w/Birth control patch.. Doing so far fine went since 2 years from now... Always kept health check up every once a month and to make sure everything okay specilist into women's health centre than regluar family doctor.

LOL FiestyChick's way of doing her HTMLing her words (bold text, smaller text, then large) kind of made her posts seems "colorful". :) She made it funny at times (like the ones she posted to Sabrina in one thread). I don't think she's blowing a gasket though, Bullyomom. :) She's just surprised at the news -- that's the way I interpreted her postings. :)

Anyway, I feel that "abstinence" is 100% risk free....but I agree with everyone here, best to check with your doctor about best birth control for you so there won't be any risky side effects.

Wow.. I just stopped using that brand...a month ago. I was on it for three months, did not like it because it was causing numbness and making my skin itch itch ... I am gonna do my own natural way. I never had bc in my life until this patch. forget it pal...I will use withdrawal method... simple solution, use your common sense. thx for the link. I will call up my dr abt it.. because I had symptoms to it.. hope the symptoms will go away.. it will prob take me 2 to 3 months bec of chemical imbalances from the patch.. darn...
