Texas police: Missing 5-day-old baby found
LUBBOCK, Texas - A missing 5-day-old baby was found Monday evening, more than 24 hours after her mother said she was abducted by a woman who had posed as a nurse in medical scrubs. Priscilla Nicole Maldanado was taken to University Medical Center. Hospital spokesman Greg Bruce said the baby was fine.
There were no immediate details on where the baby was found.
Erica Ysasaga had told police that a woman who had visited her several times in the hospital after she gave birth last week disappeared with her daughter Sunday after Ysasaga had gone home with the baby.
Earlier Monday, police had studied hospital surveillance video and went door to door in a race to find the baby and the woman who stole the newborn.
The woman had apparently blended in with hospital staff in the days before the child's disappearance and befriended Ysasaga.
Nurses on duty at the time the woman visited the newborn and her family remembered seeing her on repeated visits to the hospital, police said. But no one asked why she was not wearing the correct color of scrubs or why she had no identification badge, officials said.
Nurses from doctors' offices and other medical facilities often wear scrubs and sometimes visit newborns and their families, police Lt. Roy Bassett said.
"From what I understand, they don't check and identify every possible visitor who comes to the hospital," he said. "She didn't make any attempt to take the baby from the hospital and didn't spark any suspicions."
In the hospital, the kidnapper led the mother to believe she was a nurse by dressing like one, asking questions about the baby and retrieving towels, the family said. When Ysasaga was released, the woman asked for her address, saying she had a swing and some clothes for the baby.
"She was concerned all the time about my baby, so I thought she was a nurse," Ysasaga told KAMC-TV.
At the time of her abduction, the baby girl, Priscilla Nicole Maldonado, had jaundice, a common complication in newborns that causes a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes from a buildup of pigment in the blood.
On Sunday, the woman visited the family's home and told the mother she wanted to put the newborn in a baby pageant. "I said, `No, my baby is sick. She can't be out in public,'" Ysasaga said. "She said they would pay me $100 and my baby would win stuff."
The woman then said she had relatives on the next block and wanted to show them the baby, according to Ysasaga. Ysasaga said she wanted to go with her, but the woman disappeared with the newborn while Ysasaga was momentarily distracted by her young son.
"My son ran ahead of me so I tried to reach over and grab him and when I did that, I turned around. Just like that, my baby was gone," she said.
To gain Ysasaga's confidence, the woman gave Ysasaga a driver's license number and Social Security number, according to police. But neither number matched the name the woman had given the mother.

!!!!! If she wanted a baby then she could have gone through the proper channels and adopt a new baby. There are many women who can't have babies and this really affects them and I can sympathize and understand that they want a baby but taking a baby from the hospital is not right and unfortunately instead of adopting a baby then finding a world of love with her new baby. She will have that baby taken from her then she will be thrown into a world of angry hate in a women's correctional facility ( women's prison ) where she will be looked on with hatred and digust. The women there will not want to share their pictures and letters of their kids or their grandkids with her like any normal women would do when talking about their lives and their families, how their children are their whole life. Of course, I would be angry and not too happy if a woman took my wife's and my baby away from us in a misguided attempt to find love and happiness but at the same time I can not be mad at her because I can really see and understand the reason why she would do that but if she was trying to take the baby away from us and demand like say $500,000 then I have absoutely no sympathy for that woman. That is un-acceptable !!!!! That is why it is very important if you can't have a baby which would be very hard to take and go through the grieving stages then when you are finally ready and have the strength then go ahead and fill out the application paperwork for a new baby from the foster parent's agency etc. Again, I can understand why that woman did what she did but that isn't right. I hope the baby will be returned back to the parents safe and then the woman will unfortunately, have to do some time in prison and get some help then when she gets out then she can apply for a baby the right way. God Bless both of them all..... Not a very easy situation. 
I hope police find her and arrest that lady that stole her! GRR! That piss me off!
