JOHNSTOWN, Colorado — Two teens have been charged with killing the 7-year-old sister of one of them by beating her with imitations of moves from the "Mortal Kombat" video game, prosecutors said.[/]b

Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16, were charged as adults on one count each of felony child abuse causing death, state prosecutor Robert Miller said in court documents released Wednesday and filed a day earlier.

According to a police affidavit, the teens were baby-sitting Trujillo's half-sister, Zoe Garcia, on Dec. 6 while the girl's mother was at work. Zoe lost consciousness and stopped breathing after the teens hit, kicked and body-slammed her, imitating moves used in the video game, the document said.

Trujillo and Roberts tried reviving the girl by putting her under running water and attempting CPR before they called her mother and paramedics, the affidavits stated. The girl died at a hospital.

An autopsy showed she had a broken wrist, more than 20 bruises, swelling of the brain, and bleeding in her neck muscles and under her spine, the affidavits said.

There were no listed phone numbers in the Weld County directory for either Roberts' mother, Linda Clark, or Trujillo's, Dana Trujillo. Sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez said late Wednesday that she did not know whether either teen had an attorney. The teens were being held at the Weld County jail but were not permitted to accept phone calls, Martinez said.

Roberts said he was downstairs playing video games while the sisters wrestled upstairs, police said. But a witness quoted in the affidavit said Roberts told her he had kicked the girl.

The witness told police that Roberts said Zoe had told them to stop wrestling. According to the affidavit, when the witness asked why they didn't stop, he responded, "I don't know; I was drunk."

If convicted, the teens could be sentenced to 48 years in prison.

I don't know Mortal Kombat still exist and being play.
But being drunk while underage is very serious issues that make them beyond stupid.

17 and 16 cannot be in the house without adult supervision, that must be mother's fault.

There are so many question that we may not hear from them such as...

Did mother give permission to the baby-sitter to bring her boyfriend?

What are you getting at? It's perfectly legal for a teenager to be left alone in a house.

This breaks my heart. Very tragic, indeed!

A 17 year old/16 year old should know if They are hurting the child. We all know if a child has a broken wrists... will SCREAM and PLEAD to stop or let them know that she is hurt. But they continued to beat her. The Mortal Kombat is a source that they are blaming it on. He could have been drunk, but my gosh!!! It is outragious. I don't care if the person is drunk or not the act of violence is embeded into then, the alcolhol just gave them the courage to act out. The "half sister" should have contacted police right away,,Oh yeah she was involved also....

I know this doesn't change anything for this little girl. Just burns me up when I hear stories like this.

There is no legal age for babysitting.

It was either the parents' poor judgment for choosing those kids or those kids were sneaky and violated the parents' trust.

I have heard stories where female babysitters will have a guy come over after the kid goes to bed.

It's not a perfect world, but whatever happened... it shouldn't be blamed on Mortal Kombat. In fact, I think that excuse is the stupidest excuse I've ever heard in my life. It's like that guy who killed his daughter because of his Xbox 360.

I have to agree with Vam, because thre is no legal age for teenager to be alone in the house. But when a teenager do a babysitting job, they are not to suppose to hurt a child and take it too far. Teenagers have to learn ther responbilites on the job. It also the parents needs to becareful in choosing a babysitter as well. There are lot of horror stories on babysitters that does lot of abuse and harm. It a risk.

Normal teenagers do not hurt younger children any more than normal adults do or any more than normal children hurt babies. The normal human reaction is to protect those who are younger and or more helpless than ourselves.

These people are not normal humans at any age.

These kids deserve what they get. There is no way they couldnt have known that this little girl was in pain!

Being drunk is not an excuse for being a murderer. Also, I'm sick of people blaming video games. All of these video games have warnings all over them, that these moves are not to be tried at home. And BESIDES, what 16 and 17 year old is not gonna know that these moves are in fact too dangerous?

My guess is they got their kicks off of hurting this little girl, but probably didnt intend for it to result in death. I believe this is an example of pure meaness being taken a step too far.

I only hope that there is help out there for the parents who lost this darling little girl.

Oh, I agree. It's not normal for most people to want to hurt others just for the fun of it.

These kids deserve what they get. There is no way they couldnt have known that this little girl was in pain!

Yeah... looks like they only intended to hurt her and they'll be facing manslaughter charges. Vid games aren't going to cause people to murder others. Most teens would know better than to do that to a young girl even if they didn't intend to murder her.

I have to agree that viedo games do have warning labels on them and it not hard to miss or read what the labels says do not try this at home when they knew it was dangerous thing to do. Teenagers know better and they know from right from wrong. I know some kids take things too far. I don't allow my kids to watch violance cartoons or viedo games that can get out of hands and give the wrong messages to kids to think it okay to try that stunt. I also limit kids watching TV and games. Too much TV and viedo games can be strong influence on kids.

Yep. It's like applying for a job. A person could have a perfect job history, but one day blow up on a customer... because something snapped.

Teenagers are very fragile. They may not act like it, but they are... especially when it comes to trying to fit with others.

There will be girls who will do ANYTHING for the guy they like or a group they want to be part of... such as drugs, alcohol, etc.

Yes, that´s right but ...

Depends on teenger´s maturity. The parents´s job to judge their teenager´s maturity before able to leave them alone to supersivor/babysit young children or not. It´s parental´s responsiblity.

Yes, we have video games, DVD, CD etc with restriction here in Germany. They are not allow to sell teenagers without parents´ supersiving in all stores. They demand their ID if they are unsure about their ages. It does the same with cigarettes and alochol as well.

I really feel bad for a little girl Zoe... :(
