Police shoot man with Taser gun in Nottingham
A man was shown apparently being shot twice with a Taser gun by police in Nottingham in a mobile phone video taken by a bystander and posted on YouTube yesterday.

The footage has prompted calls from human rights groups for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to investigate the incident and review the use of Taser guns by police.

The video appears to show four officers converging on a man outside the city's Theatre Royal in an attempt to arrest him. When he resists, one of them tells the others to stand back and fires a Taser at him as he lies on the pavement. As the man continues to resist arrest, one of the officers punches the man in the head repeatedly.

Bystanders gather round and a policeman fires the Taser again at the man on the floor, while shouting: "Taser, Taser, Taser." The Taser gun consists of two darts on the end of wires containing a 50,000 volt electric shock.

The video was given to local radio station Trent FM and posted on YouTube, prompting more than 300 views and 100 comments within the first four hours.

Nottinghamshire police told the Press Association that officers were trying to arrest the 40-year-old man after they were called out by door staff at one of the city's nightspots; he was later charged on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Davies said: "We understand that some members of the public may be concerned about this ... which is why we have referred this *matter for an objective investigation to the IPCC."

Taser Arrest: Man Hit Three Times By Stun Gun
An investigation is under way after police in Nottingham shot a man three times with a taser stun gun as they tried to arrest him.
A member of the public filmed the incident, which happened in the city centre in the early hours of Monday, and passed the video to Sky News.

The witness told Sky's radio colleagues at Trent FM that the man had already been shot once with the taser before he started filming.

He is seen wrestling on the ground with two police officers, one of whom points the stun gun at the man and fires it, causing him to briefly lie still.

The suspect begins to struggle again and within a few seconds two other policemen arrive at the scene.

Then the officer armed with the stun gun shouts: "Taser, taser, taser", as he fires the weapon for a second time.

His colleague is later seen punching the man several times in his upper body, while shouting: "Release your arm!"

In a statement, Nottinghamshire Police said its officers had responded to a call for assistance from door staff to help deal with an aggressive customer.

One officer was assaulted and required hospital treatment as police dealt with the incident.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and was released on police bail.

Nottinghamshire Police said the footage had been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for investigation.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Davies said: "We understand that some members of the public may be concerned about this.

"The public's trust and confidence is very important for us, which is why we have referred this matter for an objective investigation to the IPCC.

"We are proactively looking at other CCTV in the area to ensure we have a clear picture of events leading up to the arrest and I would ask anyone in possession of such evidence, including the person who took the footage that has been published, to come forward as witnesses."

Last month the Home Office announced that an extra 6,000 taser stun guns were to be handed out to police in England and Wales.

The roll-out follows a 12-month trial in which the weapon was used by frontline officers in 10 forces.

The Home Office claim tasers are a powerful deterrent in preventing escalations of violence.

Yup, US isn't alone about police use taser to taze the citizens and that's new to me about police in UK use taser gun now.

I wouldn't surprised if it has spread to Europe, even Germany.

I noticed that one police did punched guy after got tazed but not happen in US, in US, when anyone got tazed then police arrested it without punch their face or physical abuse them.

I found out about police in France does use taser gun too.

4 very strong cops vs. 1 40-years old stupid man.... I thought UK police has more common sense than American cops. I guess they're a wimp after all..... :dunno:

yi yi yi yi yi yi yi yi yi yi

"peeper" spray??....HAHA..I meant "pepper" spray....anyhow.... I thought they sprayed it in ur eyes....

and your sandwich too. Its content is same as tabasco sauce, hot pepper sauce, etc. unless you're using MACE :o

MACE and Pepper Spray are 2 different companies. MACE is usually a combination of 3 chemicals - pepper spray + tear gas + invisible UV dye (the most common one). The police uses MACE but obviously the stronger version.

gun... failed
tazer... failed

what's next? Cream pie?

I don't like what I am viewin' in that video! :squint:

I do understand a lot of people are against tazer guns.

I still think it beats the hell out of being shot by a real gun, or having the shit beat out of ya.

Just like with anything. Some authorities just like to abuse it.

I would hate to see if they felt that they had to resort to a baton, or a loaded gun on the guy.

I feel in incidents like that, should be viewed case by case. Instead of everyone screaming cruelty!

I agree.

Here's a good example of bad use of tazers...

A guy is sitting down on his front porch. He doesn't have a knife or a gun in his hands. He's not acting dangerous or waving his fists in the air. He's just sitting there. Yet, the police tazer him.

In this video, the guy was physically resisting arrest. He was trying to punch and kick the police officers. So, he had it going for him. If the officers asked him to lay down with his hands on his back and he did that, then they tazered him... then I would say that was abuse.

interesting... in other thread about 72-years old woman being tazered.... people were saying that cop was a big strong guy so there's no need to use tazer on 72 years old lady and yet..... with that same logic - a tazer isn't needed in here since there were 4 strong cops vs. 1 guy...

in both cases - both were resisting arrest.

:hmm:

i would rather cooperate, that keeps the cops from added on extra charges

So... Tazing a 72 year ol' frail heart. Is cool with you? When a cop could have pulled her out. With his little finger... Interesting... That is why I stated case by case should be a factor. An officer should know who they can and can not handle. If they can not handle a frail old lady then they should not be on the force in the first place, unless that frail old lady has a gun pointed to them.

So a three year old child.. resisting.... kicking and screaming at a cop... Tase that kid!!! Is that what you are saying? When a single officer can contain that child?

Should everyone get the same results! Taze, taze, taze????

Factors, and common sense plays a huge role on a good officer. You should know that.

Come on.. Everyone and everything has a limit. This is one of them, about the old lady...

the kids have been tazered for their own protection. the point is - all were fine and safe. tazer did the job as what it was designed to do. I don't really understand what's your issue with tazer. you're viewing it like cattle prod connected to power line.

4 cops vs 1 guy... a 40 years old guy. what if he's got heart condition? mental illness? come on.... 4 cops!!!

btw - the 72 years old woman was certainly not frail based on that video! she looks like she's got some fight left in her!
