STOCKHOLM (AP) - Sweden's industry minister on Wednesday slammed General Motors for saying its Saab unit could face bankruptcy unless it receives government funding.

Maud Olofsson said she was "incredibly disappointed" in the U.S. automaker and insisted it was GM, not the Swedish government, that was responsible for Saab's future.

As it announced its restructuring plans Tuesday, GM said it needs urgent support from the Swedish government or Saab could file for bankruptcy already this month.

Olofsson said GM had requested 5 billion kronor ($570 million) from the government.

"It's so much money and its such a huge responsibility and so it's not actually up to (Swedish) taxpayers to do that," Olofsson told national broadcaster SVT.

GM has offered Saab for sale but the Swedish government has repeatedly said it is not interested in taking over the brand.

"We've been clear on that the Swedish state and the taxpayers in Sweden will not own car factories," Olofsson said.
 
yea Saab is known for their quirky designs...but now Saab looks more Americanized than Swedenish.
 
Saab is now back in Swedish hands thanks to the Koenigsegg CC exotic car lol.

Can you imagine Koenigsegg making a Saab 9-3 Aero Viggen stuffed with the 1/2 of the motor out of the Koenigsegg CCX? lol. That would rock, but a 9-7x with the Koenigsegg CC motor would really embarass a Porsche Cayenne Turbo ;)

Plus the Koenigsegg is one of my favorite video game cars especially a monster creation I did on Need for Speed Pro Street that I called it the "CC8SXR' combing the best of what Koenigsegg offered for their cars.
 
I just said what because it's so odd to hear a exotic car company buying a normal car company.
 
yeah I know its weird an exotic car co buying a normal car co. However I think its great for both Koenigsegg and Saab to show Swedish innovation.

Better Saabs equal more faster Koenigseggs that can beat the Bugatti EB16/4 Veyron on the top speed category that the Koenigsegg CC8 held record before the Bugatti broke it.

Plus the bright side is Saab get better engineering from Koenigsegg. Even the designs could be better done by the Swedish than the designers at GM.

Can ya say "Saab 9-5 Aero Viggen CC8SXR" in Swedish? lol
 
LOL, that would be something interesting to see in the near future. Super fast Egg-Saab hybrid. :laugh2:
