Subtitled Movies: A Poll

There's no need to bump a thread that's not even a day old... ;)

And... to answer your question, I'd probably say "maybe".

Well, I just wanted more people to notice and vote. I'm trying to get as many to vote if possible. It's just a poll to see what people respond with. So far, I'm surprised that only one has voted 'No' so far while 50 voted 'Yes' and 14 voted 'Depends on Price'.

I guess people are willing to accept such a concept. Especially when a lot of LCD HDTV models can use VGA/DVI from computers, so this may be a good concept. I did this as a favour to a friend who's working on a proposal for the major studios/distributors on changing the way they protect their intellectual properties.

I cannot discuss the subject on what the concept for the theatre owners will be since it has yet to be either patented or finalized. I do have a good idea of what it is and it's quite an interesting concept. In a way, this may be better for the consumers as the current rules in the DRM (Digital Rights Management) will have to be changed and for the better. The current DRM is a pain for many. Especially for these who buy music and movies online from iTunes and others.

Anyway, that's why.

Not going to happen, unfortunately - they release movies in the theaters first because it's more lucrative that way.

On top of that, I don't think they usually create the subs until they're preparing for a DVD release - I get a few screener DVDs every year of major films, *usually* before they're out on DVD to the public, and they almost never have subs. (So I rip them to my laptop and find subs online.)

It's not wise to discuss your piracy activities here. Especially when you live in the USA or some other countries where they're strict with piracy laws.

This isn't really a debate. It's just a poll.

I get these screeners legitimately, usually directly from the studio - only the subs are illegal. As long as I'm not sharing the films, the only thing that I'm doing that is illegal is downloading the subs - and I'm not paranoid enough to think that the movie industry cares about that (they may be crazy, but they're not that crazy). Granted, the DMCA makes ripping a grey area, but there's plenty of precedent in terms of fair use, disability-related format shifting, etc., that it would be unenforceable in this instance.

Just my two cents.

Okay, it was just the "sub" bit that made me think you were discussing the piracy activities since a large number of screeners can be downloaded via torrent clients and P2P softwares. Especially at this time of year as it's the Oscar season. I apologize for assuming that part.

Well, I probably would... but why would they even allow that to happen?

I vote no, because they should release in threatre as fair.

and then download to be in public when it release for home.

I don't. I hate to do with legally or illegally download, because I hate
pirate, they are sucks! I rather use Netflix.com, or buying a
authorized dealer from major movie studio companies is recommend
for deaf and hard-of-hearing.
