Teen Gets Passport & Heads to Middle East for MySpace Man
This I don't understand. Apparently a 16-year-old girl out of Michigan tricked her parents into letting her get a passport to go on a trip to Canada with some friends of hers, but in reality the young girl was on her way to Israel, alone. Katherine R. Lester was on her way to meet a 25-year-old man from Jericho as described on his MySpace.com account when U.S. officials in Jordan convinced her to head home before reaching the West Bank. Her parents report their child as being a straight-A student, student council member and one to never give any troubles or problems. However something seems really strange and bizarre about the whole deal. How did she even make it that far out the country? Sure teens travel alone all the time, but to Tel Aviv? Maybe I'm a little out of the know? I just thank goodness someone spotted her before she reached her final destination.

The deputies in her town have since confiscated the family's home computer and were taking it to the FBI's Bay City office for a very thorough analysis - I'm sure. Sigh, kids on the internet.

I thought that her parents aren't wise enough to let 16-years old girl go out of country alone. It's not myspace(dot)com fault.

I think those under 18 should NOT have a myspace account at all. Minors do NOT belong on MySpace, period. If I have kids, I will NOT allow them to use MySpace at all until they are 18.

And you are right, it is the parents' responsiblity. But I would see to see MySpace.com change so that it will only allow those over 18 to have accounts, but no accounts for those under 18.

The problem with the internet isn't the sites. It's the lack of proper supervision by parents. I know of a 13 yr old who has an MySpace account. Her mother knows exactly what she does on the site, and WHO she chats with. This mother also moniters the daughter's account for anything weird that might pop up. If it does, the mother takes appropriate action. If more parents did this, then we wouldn't have teenagers running off to other countries to try and meet internet "friends".

I would carefully supervise my kids' (If I had kids) time on the internet, what they do, etc, but for safety reasons I would NOT allow them to have MySpace account or other such accounts where sex predators can just go to a website and see pictures and profile....too much information. *shudders*

That's what's called being a responsible parent. Unfortunately, not many parents are that responsible. Some people opt to not allow their child access to chat sites; while others do, but they supervise the hell out of the activity. That's not the problem.

The problem is when you have a parent who goes out and gets their 11 yr old a computer. Then, they put that computer in their child's room with internet access. THEN, they forget about it. They fail to find out what the child is doing. That's just asking for serious trouble. You should never turn a kid loose on a computer without first making sure you can moniter what they do while online.

Well, until I was 18 (about a year and a half ago), I never had Internet access in my room, yet I had computers... Remember, computers are typically only dangerous to children if they have Internet access. My parents didn't care what I did on my computers because I didn't have Internet access, so there was really no need to supervise that.

I do not think kids should have Internet access in their rooms until they are 18. They should be allowed to have computers, though, but not unsupervised Internet access.

that girl was fuckin' crazy...thank god she she didnt get hurt or anything and was returned home.

Actually, It is the jews themselves who are anti-semitic. Just look at the pornographic industry in Hollywood, California and then look at the pornographic industry in Tel Aviv, Israel itself. You are not paying attention to what all I said, especially the last part.

Dont you know what anti-Semitism means???

Besides this is not about religion - it is about a young girl falling for a guy via Internet. It has happened everywhere - I know many young people running off to meet folks they met on Net - there is no reason for you to single out the entire Jewish race for this mishap.

Are you truly serious? Must you inject anti-Semitism here???!!!!!! :jaw: That is so insulting of you! *gonna report you to mods*

Er, I agree. We're not talking about about anti-semitism here. This is simply about a young girl who went to meet someone she met over the internet. What makes this unusual is that she happened to go overseas. It also happened to be to an Arab country. To suggest anything different is inflammatory and wrong.

Thank God the girl was found safe!

:werd: I agree.

Very Funny Levonian, Now for the news.... This is a very good example of the right way for a girl to go visit Israel with her parents and she certainly did not need the help of a sick stranger in Israel or anywhere for that matter.

Excellent ASL Presentation of a Deaf girl that actually visited Israel with her parents the right way and most important of all, The safe way.

I found this Deaf ASL presentation on the internet .....

Watch the whole video clip to see what she has to say .....

Oh, this doesn't surprise me--I've seen some other anti-Semitic posts by Heath on AllDeaf.

It is clear to me you did not see the whole video clip of the ASL presentation and No, I am not the one who is anti-semitic , it is the jews themselves who are anti-semitic by their own doings, not yours or mine or anybody else's. It is the jew's own doings. That is all.

No matter how you put it, Heath, it's rude and :topic:

How can you say that when that video clip is actually a good example of how to save lives and no it is not off topic, This is on topic because that is really the right way to go visit Israel or anywhere else in the world. That girl in the news article went to Canada, from there to Jordan almost entered Israel when the Arabs took notice of her and sent her to the US Embassy to help bring her back to the USA and I am sure the Jordanians are now looking for that jewish man who tried to lure the young girl from America to Israel meanwhile the Israeli police as usual does nothing because they see and think that a jew can't do no wrong in another jew's eyes especially towards a goyim girl. Israel has the biggest pornography industry in the world in nearly every country, not just Hollywood, California. It would not surprise me if the Arabs got justice for the parents of that young innocent girl.

i wouldnt let my son have internet access in his room.. wait till hes over 18 then he can do what he want to do.. but now? hes only almost 7 and i do watch him play games online and etc.. he cant talk to strangers.. but daddy and godmomma only!!! i agree it takes a parent to be responsible for a kid's action. no matter what if they are teenager.. MOMMA AND DADDY must watch and monitor the kid's activities online whether they think its stupid but its for their own safety..

i never got the computer till i was 24 so it didnt bother me.. and my son will be fine without one.. :D
